Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Only for 5xxx and 6xxx. %#!@#$.
Why the hell can't game developers and AMD work closely to fix all issues before release. the game has been in development for 5 years .

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
I'd try it even with a 4000 or earlier series card, in cases like this there is often a gain on older cards as well, they just mostly no longer bother testing.

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Now AMD is telling people not to use this driver , maybe I should learn programing. I could do better myself and probably will save them some money too

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
The newest release is available now. The reason it was discouraged was due to having older OGL drivers included. Shouldn't have happened, but that's the story.

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
The Version 2 of Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver is out and this is a unified release for both Battlefield 3 and Rage.
(Sorry about posting the same thing in two threads, I thought that people interested in both games should see it and chose this over starting yet another thread.)

I don't have the game but I'm reading that some people who reverted to 11.8 are having no problems with the game running.

well stuff me that actually worked ... the game still has a shockingly bad framerate but i am actually able to move about now and the constant pausing has gone still in need of a much better driver but its a huge improvement cheers for that ![]() + rep |

I read there's a 1GB update out for the game now. Sounds about the right size for what might be needed to improve it.

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Yea, it adds a few graphics options like Vsynch , AF. But from what I read people still have problems.

Carmack and his guys probably were working hard to ensure that id 5.0 engine will run at 60hz on sonsoles but they forget to make it even run on computers.

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Who needs beta testing when customers are doing it. Just release a patch and everything will be just fine and if not who cares we just got your money.

I guess it wont make much a difference that I refuse to buy anything ever again made by codemasters as an example, if I'm the only one protesting nothing will change. One patch that fixed some minor issues but still left some major ones untouched while the only response is: "Buy the next version." |

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Well, they control the content we want. All of it. Sure it's divided among several companies, but rather than compete, they are displaying a staggering amount of solidarity. One company jacks up the AAA title price - they all do; one introduces always on DRM - they all follow suit; and as you've mentioned, releasing unfinished and untested software to be "tested" by the consumers and patched (or not) afterwards has become the norm. Essentially, despite all the "BF3 vs CoD" and similar bickering, the major publishers are in effect one happy cartel and we can either stop gaming altogether (I've been considering this actually) or suck it up until something changes, but I only remember one ruling where the judge found Sony guilty of abusing it's position of control over vast amounts of desirable content to impose unfair restrictions upon the consumers (and I'm not sure what ever became of that).

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
Back in the days when I was actually programming I would have felt ashamed to release something that wasn't properly tested. Of course there are always bugs, it's more or less impossible to construct a program that's completely free of them, but releasing something that was half finished never even occurred to me. Of course it was simpler then, those programs had only one type of hardware to deal with, but still.
Considering how much money we all spend on hardware, the game manufacturers might as well buy into the hardware companies to get ther profit from there and release all games for free but do them properly instead. ![]() Sure, this wasn't a completely serious comment but in a sense it's an interesting thought.

Re: AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver
There should be consumer rights agencies and quality control just like for physical products but for games and software. You rarely find a buggy software but you usually find buggy games. Ok I know game programing can be much more complex but at least in the software market you don't find part of the program sold later as a dlc or a pre order bonus or any of that crap but instead software recives constant free updates. Even heavy programs like matlab and autocad which usually used by expert users and agencies who are more likely to use desktops and have internet connection and yet none of these softwares are using always on DRM.
Another market that is million times affected by piracy than gaming market and there is less bitching about it is Film industry. You know why, because companies know most of the gamers are casuals and kids who don't mind any restriction or any crap they put on the product. Software customers are mostly adults and wiser than average gaming community. Software consumers don't bitch or complain like gaming community, instead if they don't like a product they don't buy it ,on the contrary you find sheeps in gaming community bitching all the day and they buy the game on day 1. It sucks for us adult gamers but I think I'll quit gaming at some poin t maybe later or sooner.
