Windows Live Blurry - Fix?

After Windows installed some updates today and I started Windows Live messenger after the reboot it was all blurry and hardly possible to see anything in it.

Did some quick googling and found that it was related to Morphological Filtering in the AMD Driver so I unchecked that in CCC and the problem was gone.

However, I found it a bit strange that it started now since I hadn't updated the driver or WLM.

These were the windows updates that were installed before this happened:

KB2619339
KB2618444
KB2618451
KB2620712
KB2639417
KB2633952

I wonder if any of those might be the reason?

Well, now using the 12.3 drivers and I still can't use Morphological Filtering. Text in games gets all blurry and almost unreadable and programs like WLM is completely blurred out and totally unusable because of that.

MLAA is only meant to be used with 3D apps....e.g. games. Anything not 3D will definitely be blurry.

It's something that's been complained about from the introduction of MLAA. I tried it...don't like it...and prefer to have my games play well rather than look great.

Anyway, if you want non-3D displays to look proper, you need to turn off MLAA manually, OR create profiles for only those games/apps in which you want to use it. You have to do that via CCC.

I know this, but even in 3D games it looks like crap. In Civ V as an example, text is almost unreadable when it's on.

Well, it's gonna stay off from now on..

Re: Windows Live Blurry - Fix?

Yeah, text is the real weak point, especially if it's just one pixel wide. I wonder if FXAA has the same problem (in game)?

I sympathize with you. I tried using it in Mafia 2. The trees looked like some kid drew them in a crayon book.

As I said, I really prefer the game performs well as opposed to looking good...or great.

Re: Windows Live Blurry - Fix?

some games make use of it very very well.. others however do not play nice..

The method of AA was introduced as a SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER way of doing nearly the same quality of Super Sampling AA.... and it's implementation isn't bad.. but it has a drawback of being extremely picky... The TEXT issue in SOME games do not play nice.... i think Unreal 3 Based games totally dislike it... but that's to be expected since most Unreal 3 Engine games typically don't play to nicely with AA from the start.. something i wish epic would have implemented properly from the start.... only idiot thing they did.
