Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone could help.
The following is an extract that I followed. "I just installed Windows 7 RC, and can only assume it works in the RTM (it does). First, download the drivers for the 9200se (these will be the xp drivers). Second, extract the package (this is basically running the .exe you just downloaded). The package will extract in an ATI folder on your C: drive. It will then try installing the driver, at which point it should fail. If it doesn't fail, cancel it, all we want is the extracted folder. Third, go to your device manager (in control panel) and open up the display adapter tree. Right click on the "standard VGA adapter" and click "update driver software." Fourth, click on "browse my computer for driver software" and paste ... C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-11-PRE-R300_XP-2K_DD_CCC_WDM_38185\DRIVER ... in the field to search for. Otherwise you can just click "browse" and go to that folder. Fifth, click "next" let it install, and restart. After you boot back up you should have the drivers installed." Now the problem arises here. I reinstalled windows 7 to give the computer to my parents, (fresh start) and when I choose 'select driver manually' and highlight the catalyst folder, it brushes past and says my best driver software is already installed (standard vga graphics adapter). It does not let me install the xp drivers manually. How do I get past this? Even though I cant get past 1024x768 resolution on a 24" monitor. Any help?? Thanks |

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
If you insist on doing this, it is best to Uninstall whatever drivers have been installed for the Display Adapter. If you have a folder with any Windows Vista and/or Windows 7 drivers included, DELETE that folder completely. Do not place it in the Recycle Bin....remove it/them from the computer.
If you successfully extracted the Windows XP drivers to a folder/directory, simply go to that directory and scroll through to the folder where the actual drivers are included. Ignore any setup.exe for now as I'm not sure it will run properly if you try it. Instead, go to the folder where the XP drivers are. This is the location where you would direct the Install drivers from within Device Manager. So, now go back to Device Manager and try again to see if that works. If not, you can try the setup.exe to see if that works. BUT, in all reality, it's really non-sensical to be installing W-7 and then not using a compatible W-7 display adapter. Why not just get a compatible card and be done with it? The whole system will be happier and compatible cards are very cheap! Not to mention much, MUCH better than an ancient 9200. But, good luck, anyway. |

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
Hey thanks for responding. I unistalled the driver, then rebooted but like you said it auto installed the driver again. You told me to delete and remove it from the recycling bin, but where exactly can I find these drivers that are being installed automatically? A response would be much appreciated, thankyou for your help.

Now, I never mentioned anything about the Recycle Bin. If you have things in the Recycle Bin, why are they there? Didn't you want to DELETE the stuff you have there? If so, why is it still taking up space on your system? If I want to Delete something from my system, I completely delete and bypass the Recycle Bin. So, if there's something you think you want to keep, don't put it in the Recycle Bin, put it into a specific directory/folder or onto a separate hard drive. Things like that can be ZIPped into a compressed folder for future access. Anyway, you need to tell us what drivers are being installed. Just make sure you have no AMD/ATI drivers anywhere on your system so that you can decide which ones you want to install....after Windows installs the VGA drivers. Did you download and run CCleaner yet? |

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
Yeah the VGA drivers were the ones being automatically installed. There is no other drivers installed, and when I attempt to manually install the AMD/ATI one, it says Windows already found the best suitable driver, i.e The native vga drivers.
You said to delete it all, sorry let me rephrase I left no trace of the item. Yeah I ran CCleaner yet, it was pretty positive as it was a fresh install of Windows 7, pretty new. |

After you deleted all the previous AMD/ATI drivers and folders, you need to get the specific driver you're wanting to install. Once you download that, you need to run the Installer in order to EXTRACT the files to the proper location on your system. This will normally be to the root directory of your system hard drive... C:/ ... followed either by AMD or ATI depending on which driver you get. Once it has completed extracting the files, DO NOT run any installation. Close down all the windows that are open. This is where you need to go to Device Manager, go through the steps to Update Drivers but DO NOT let Windows search for them. Rather, you need to "Let me select...." and then browse to the directory where the drivers were extracted and manually select the folder where the drivers are located. You will likely get a Windows warning, but, you want to "Install ... anyway." Any questions? |

Yeah thats exactly what I do lol.. I said that in the first post. It flashes past some screen I cant read and says that the best suitable driver is installed already.

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
Try this:
Go to the driver location once again where it was extracted. Don't bother with Device Manager. Find the Setup.exe for the version you want to install. Right click on that and select "Run as Administrator". See if that works. If it doesn't repeat the above once again but, then instead of selecting "Run as Administrator" go down and right click on Properties at the bottom. A new window will open. You want to click on the tab for Compatibility. Try running the setup in Compatibility with Windows 7. (Or Windows XP if that doesn't work.) |

'Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.'
Thats what it says now.. The thing is i don't understand why I could do it before i reinstalled windows 7, nothing has changed? Thanks a lot for your suggestions btw, I appreciate it. |

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
Which XP driver version are you using? I just did a check of the AMD/ATI Legacy Drivers for XP and found that there are no drivers listed for anything prior to 9500. If you're using the 10.2 drivers from there, then I'm almost sure they won't install for your card since it is not in the supported list.
Unless you can find XP drivers specifically for the 9200 series, I'm not sure you'll have any success. |

Re: Raden 9200 Windows 7 (Not your average problem)
I'm going to suggest one more thing and then I'm pretty much out of ideas.
Go again into Device Manager. At the top of that you'll see some options. Among those is "View." Select that and then in the Dropdown menu, click on "Show Hidden Devices." Now, with that option selected, go again to the Display Adapters and Remove/Uninstall any devices listed there....all of them if there are multiple devices. Once done, exit out and restart the PC. As soon as you see the first screen start pressing the F8 key repeatedly. This is to force the Start Up Menu and you want to select Safe Mode. Let the PC boot into Safe Mode and see if, hopefully, it will detect the AGP card and proceed to install the VGA drivers. If this fails, there has to be something conflicting with that particular card and your specific system. The only OTHER thing I would attempt to do if it were mine, would be to do a Windows REPAIR operation with the ATI AGP card in the AGP slot and hope with both fingers and toes crossed that it would recognize and install the proper VGA drivers for it. This may, actually, be your best option after all the trouble you've already gone through. |
