Weird Beta Microsoft Website When Vista Advises Me To Install Update
Recently I've installed Vista Beta 2 Build 5384 which is brilliant considering it's a beta. But i've been having problems with the Media Center and the customer support feature keeps saying that soon there will be a fix that will fix this problem with Media Center. Even though this problem has stopped sometimes when i start Media Center the customer support feature alerts me that there is now a beta avaliable that will fix this problem and it gives me a link to click. I click it and it directs me to www.beta.microsoft.com which then tells me to sign in with my Microsoft Passport. When i do it then says.

i've had no such e-mail. Does this mean i'm missing out on something, that i'm stuck with Build 5384? Or is it just directing me to the wrong place (As Vista is still in Beta 2 stage the link maybe wrong) Cheers Cube623.

Yes, like most you're in the Customer Experience Program and not a Beta Tester. They're up to 5472 now which is what I managed to, uhemm, perloin from a Torrent. Nice that the beta builds since the official 5384 Beta 2 all accept the beta 2 cd key's.
So it's quite possible they fixed your problem (though I guess you got it working) but officially you won't get a new build until the Release Candidate 1 comes out. If you paid shipping and got the DVD then you'll get the DVD of that automatically shipped to you. If you downloaded Beta 2 then as long as you activated it once they will email you with a download link and new cd key for the Release Candidate 1. You could get something like uTorrent and join a forum like thehotfix.net and download 5472. However it's probably not worth the bother right now as folks are thinking the Release Candidate 1 will be out sometime in August. Whatever you do you'll get the best results if you clean install to a formatted partition instead of upgrading, even if these builds (like the latest 5472 and 5456) support upgrade installs. These builds change and fix (and break) lots of stuff between them and it's worth the extra time to set them up cleanly. I was up in 20 minutes with 5472's setup so that's improved immensely!

right i've installed build 5472.5 and WOW!! It is so much better than 5384. It loads up faster than my XP version! And for once all drivers work!! including drivers for my memory card reader which i got free with my camera even XP didn't have those preloaded! Vista in my view is heading in the right direction!
