Vista Hyberfil.sys
I was wondering if anyone knew how to turn off whatever so Vista stops putting the hyberfil.sys file back on the drive. I cant turn off the hybernate feature or even find it in vista.

Q: How can I disable hibernation in Windows Vista and remove hiberfil.sys?
A: Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on “Command Prompt”, and then click “Run as Administrator”. If User Account Control (UAC) asks you for permission, permit the Command Prompt to run. Next, type “powercfg -h off” (without the quotes), followed by pressing Enter. Close the Command Prompt window and restart. Source |

That is the fastest easiest way. It is rather awkward to change with the GUI just because it's buried pretty deep. If you want to use the Graphic interface for any reason though, open Control Panel and select System and Maintenance. Click on Power Options and click on Change plan settings for the plan that is selected. Click on Change advanced power settings then click on the plus sign beside Sleep then the plus sign beside Hibernate after. Click on setting and change the counter to Never (0 in other words).

hmmm... this doesn't work, the hiberfil.sys is still created/ modified at boot time and can't be deleted. There must be another setting that causes it to still be used, a sleep setting perhaps? I tried turning off hybrid sleep, but that didn't work either. Why they pooched this up in Vista when it was a simple on/off check box in previous versions I'll never understand.
