No internet, sorta...
Formatted the partion that held previous beta, installed RC1 easily enough. RC1 started, auto d/led an update so I have a connecion to the net supposedly. Vista tells me I'm connected. I can see my network here at home. But internet explorer does not connect to anything. Beta posed no problems in this area. IE is set to get an ip addy automatically, all settings set to auto. the addy it gets is the same one the router assigns when I boot from the XP partition. ipconfig shows the gateway it's supposed to use. It won't activate, either.
Any ideas?

You might have a problem with offloading. Try going to device manager and check your Network Interface settings. If you see something with tx or rx checksum offloading and it is enabled, disable it. Also disabling IPv6 from your network connections might solve the issue.

tried what you suggested...lost all network connectivity. It reminds of trying to get Win95 to connect to the net. I even forced in the proper DNS addies, suffix and gateway addy to no avail. I can ping the other computer and the router, just not beyond. I also cannot get the router's interface up using IE in Vista, but can using XP on the same computer.

What is the brand and model of your NIC? Is Vista recognizing it correctly? I had problems with the offloading part, because Vista was recognizing my NIC as a Marvel card, when it is infact a 3com 3c940 chip. Once it got going however, it downloaded updated drivers from Windows Update and recognized my card correctly and I didn't have any offloading options after that (because my NIC doesen't support it).

It correctly identifies the card as a Yukon Marvel. Apparently there is a problem with these cards and RC1 from what I'm seeing around the net. I haven't found a solution that works yet. I guess I'm gonna have to try a different nic.
For some reason, disabling the checksum offloads for ip4 and ip6 finally worked...hmmm. Thanks for the help
