ATI RC1 Drivers for Vista RC1=Corruption

I've been using the latest Vista downloads. First, I tried the Pre-RC1 release and then installed the latest RC1 release.

I also downloaded the ATi RC1 drivers for Vista.

Well, I can't use these drivers as they cause all kinds of problems when attempting to do very simple things. Among them:

1. Try to view the Device Manager
2. Try to install any program
3. Try to open anything other than the Desktop and/or Browser Window.

Here's what happens:

Once that screen appears, the only remedy is to hit the ESC key...which effectively halts any operation that was started and then returns me to the Desktop.

With this happening constantly, Vista is pretty much useless.

To avoid the problem....or to fix it....I have to boot into Safemode and Uninstall the Video Card and the Drivers for it. Then, I have to make sure to install ONLY the Microsoft drivers (WDDM).

Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon and I can actualy try Vista with a game or two.

So this happens everytime UAC kicks in? The screen is supposed to go grey and you have a dialog that asks if you want to allow program installation or use priviledged access to do some system changes. Have you tried using TAB to switch the button focus to continue and using enter? Another thing to try would be to switch DWM off and see if display corruption occurs then (probably not, as it is not DirectX...)

ATI RC1 driver image/texture corruption

No BSOD's here (yet), but huge corruption in any 3D application. You can check out screenshots of 3DMark03 here: http://needle.1g.fi/kuvat/Vista+RC1/

Checked with XP, everything is fine there. Also, the older drivers (beta 2) or the ones shipped with RC1 work "fine" (in other words no corruption).

As suggested in this post: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...=117183&page=3

I have a dual monitor setup too (TV in extended mode). I have 19" LCD hooked up thru the VGA connector and a 32" LCD TV hooked up thru the DVI connector. I however get a desktop on the TV and the LCD without problems. Resolutions are good too (1280x1024 and 720p) and DVD playback works to a certain point (I get trails of gray left on the screen...). I'll have to see what happens if I unplug the TV tonight...

You may have to settle on using the Microsoft drivers for now. Even Zardon, our illustrious site owner, cannot use the official drivers satisfactorily on his system.

Seems it's a 'hit and miss' feature right now.

Hopefully now that Nvidia has released RC2 drivers now Ati will release some, would be nice to give Vista a good honest try but need workable drivers to do so. I get same corruption as above on my X8xx cards. My 1950 works ok but want to try it on my older cards.
