Burning RC1 Onto DVD Disk

Ok, I've downloaded the Vista RC1 onto one of my harddrives, I've got my key from MS and now I'm trying to burn the file onto a blank DVD-rom. I'm using Nero 7 Ultra Suite with the latest updates. After I select the DVD-ISO setting and then try to drag and drop the file for burning I get a message telling me that the file is too big to use the ISO setting and that I should use the UDF setting because of the file size being too big. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

I'm planning on doing a clean installation on new harddrive so I have my XP Pro OS to fall back on if things don't work out with the Vista RC1.

Here's an easier way. Grab DVD Decryptor from HERE (free, btw). Choose "Mode" from the top menu, select "ISO, Write". Choose the iso image to write, burn, and viola! Done.

For some strange reason DVD Decryptor works perfectly for reading and writing ISO images to DVD.

I've had absolutely no trouble burning the two versions of Vista I've downloaded to DVD using Roxio.

But, I do have DVD Decryptor, too. It's worth the download.

Thanks, Tipstaff. I just happen to have DVD Decrypter on my computer and it did the trick. I've got Vista burned onto the DVD-rom disk. Now one more question, if you don't mind. As you can see buy my specs below I'm using a Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe in Crossfire mode. I'm just wondering if the chipset drivers that are on the A8R32-MVP Deluxe installation disk will work with this Vista RC1 or do I have to find something more compatible?

Seeing as how it's an ATI Crossfire Xpress 3200 based board, that's a really good question. And you're in luck, cuz on ATIs website they have put up RC1 Catalyst drivers for Vista (both 32 and 64bit, plus a 32/64 combo). As part of the drivers they include support for (among other things) the Crossfire Xpress 3200 chipset. You can get more info, and the drivers HERE on their site.

Hey! If I read you correctly you are burning the image to DVD...
To burn images to disc in Nero Burning Rom go to Recorder / Burn image
Then it asks you to locate the image you want to burn ... rest should bee easy

the chipset on the Asus A8R32-MVP never needed chipset drivers, let windows handle it all, the only thing you'll need to be concerned about is IF your running raid or PURE sata mode, you'll need ULi Sata/Raid drivers.

And then the Realtek drivers (which are already provided but you should download realteks vista set anyways).

That's pretty much everything you need for vista for the board itself.

As for burning,

You don't want to physically burn the iso to a disk in form of a data file, but as the image itself. You gotta burn a Image, you can find that usually under the "Recorder" menu, BURN IMAGE TO DVD/CD, select the iso and open it up and hit burn.

On DVDs i ALWAYS have VERIFY selected for important things like these

Windows Vista both 32bit and 64bit have the ULi raid drivers natively installed in the OS so there is no need to download them.

To burn the DVD all I did was go into Nero Startsmart and select Backup andn the Burn Image To Disc and then walked away.

If you are planning to use the 64bit version of the OS do not use the ATI RC1 driver as it will crash your system durring isntall, also X-Fire does not work even though its stated it does.

the ULi sata and raid drivers are natively available?

hmmm....

although i would highly recommend the official reference be installed after.

BTW, this is while running raid?

Beta 2 did not have native support for either 32bit or 64bit Vista. You had to download the 2.20 driver off of Nvidia.com and install the 2588 driver in order to get it to work.

Pre-RC1 and Vista RC1 both 32bit and 64bit correctly identify my raid and its the same driver as the 2.20 variant from Nvidia. No need to have a floppy or USB key present durring the install.

This is running a Raid 0.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the only way I've found that works was the first one made by Tipstaff using DVDDecrypter. All other suggestions concerning Nero won't work for me for some reason.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Normally Nero will accept it, and all you need to do is make sure that you finalize the disc, as well as burn in it "Disc at Once" mode. However, sometimes the slightest error (stray byte when downloading) or what not can change the image enough that Nero won't detect it properly, or it can even screw up if the format for the image isn't how Nero wants it to be (such as a hybrid image). Happens all the time.

Do you think I should try D/ling the 32bit file one more time? It took me a couple of hours the first time.

Maybe this is why so many people are having issues installing Vista. Probably a crapped out download and damage to the ISO. I'd recommend a CHKDSK /r and then a defrag to make sure that the hard drive has no corruption.

I don't think the ISO will burn if its corrupted... if it comes with an MD5 file or something (one I downloaded did)

Mine was fine. Mind you I did a direct download, and didn't use Microsofts Download tool or the torrent, so that might count for something.

Hey Guys

Man, let me tell you I've had one heck of a time trying to burn this ISO file to a blank DVD disk. But I think that I've finally accomplished it (crossing fingers). Is there a way I can very that I've burned a good copy of the Vista RC1? I did use the "Verify Written Data" at the end of the burning session. I was told that the burning session was successful. Just wondering if there is any other way by checking the burned disk to see if I succeeded. Used Nero by the way.

If it past Nero's verification process after burn then it should be good to go, otherwise the only real good way to test it is to put it into the CDROM and see if it auto runs, next step would be to install of course.

the Vista x64 (as of this RC1 build) is still having some issues with both software's and hardware's drivers.

panging, have you gotten vista x64 to actually finish installing?

I've yet to get it to finish installing at all at least once.
