Guide on how to properly install ATI Vista Drivers

Ok first of all I know there are some of you that haven't even had any problems. For those of you who - like me had trouble, follow this guide. Works perfectly.. even lets me play intense 3D games. Ok well, to the guide....

First you need to download the ATI Vista Beta Drivers from www.ati.com

Extract the files to your desktop BUT DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING!

Open up the Control Panel and navigate to Device Manager.

Under Display Adapters, right click on whatever is there and click Update Driver Software.

Select Browse my computer....

Navigate with the browse button to the folder you extracted on your desktop. Follow the instructions in the wizard and then reboot... You should have a working graphics card now...

NOTE: THIS BYPASSES THE CATALYST CONTROL CENTER AND ALL ATI SOFTWARE. IT ONLY INSTALLS THE NECESSARY DRIVERS. CATALYST SEEMS TO CAUSE PROBLEMS SO DO IT THIS WAY AND YOU WILL BE FINE.

Feel free to reply if you have problems.

Well, that's exactly how I did it the second time and I still got screen corruption whenever I would try to do very simple tasks....like go to the Device Manager.....or install any program....or.....you name it....about anything other than view the pretty Desktop.

You DO NOT install the ATI Vista RC1 drivers, especially if you are running Vista Ultimate 64Bit Edition. ATI even recommends this. The drivers are bugged to hell. Screen corruption, BSOD's, etc etc. It is recommended to use the drivers that are automatically detected.

I did install the drivers manualy but as soon as I run the setup for the CCC the system will crash and drivers will get corrupted, so with out the CCC its pretty much useless. I haven't attempted to try and install the CCC fromt he Beta 2 driver set yet though. But I've got to go out of town on business for a few days. I'll try it when I get back.

yeah man, i have a 16000 xt pro, and i can't play anything 3d, I tried to follow this guide and it recognized my video card, but it says it gets an error while trying to install it, and I think i removed most everything ati from my previous ati driver install(from website). I'm stumped, i hope ati fixes this and releases some working dirvers for RC1, if you have any other ideas let me know

Are you guys all beta testers or something?

Why don't you wait for the official release?

Well, I'm a beta tester for some things I can't divulge at the moment. But, not officially for Vista.

I did, however, want to see some of the features firsthand. It'll be nice when video drivers are stable enough that I can actually try some games on it.

denispage is on a distinguished road

I've installed Vista RC1 and Windows dettected my AT x200, but with a bad performance.
So I installed the ATI Vista RC1 drivers. After the boot, I lost the transparency effect, and I couldn't uninstall the driver (had to reinstall all OS).
Can I use XP drivers (using these steps) without problem?

Cheers,
