Installing Vista x64 Setup Error
After multiple attempts to install the x64 version of vista, i've finally caught the bsod that appears.
When the Video drivers are being installed and fired up, the screen goes blank, you get the little cursor at the top left hand corner, and usually it resets and does this a few times (based on each adapter present in the machine). However it only manages to do this once, then goes to a completely black screen, shortly after the BSOD comes up with a "reset" error directly related to the Drivers. This leads me to beleive that the MS supplied ATI driver is not capable with the current selection of ati cards and machines i've got. I've checked twice, the x64 hash is correct, the DVD burnt and verified correctly, all appears well. 5 machines... all of which fail at the same spot. And unfortuneatly i've no Nvidia cards to pop in to see for sure.

no problem here JD, no long pause more than usual, the installation of the Vista x64 R1 is okay.
haven't noticed any different of the installing process from the 32-bit version... ATi X1600 and X550's. |

only other thing i noticed is that booting from cd vrom 32 to the 64, the 64 takes roughly 5 times longer to actually fire up, but appears to work smoothly, it just gets to the point of installing video drivers, locks up and reboots, only to get back and vista tells me to basically start over, which doesn't solve the problem as it only gets so far and just does it again.

i don't know what's wrong, can't think of anything atm..., but will let you know, if found any. or you got to send me one of your x1900xtx, other cards will usually cost me the same... but the x1900xtx card costs a lot of money here, or i'll buy one to test it.

This happens to the x200 onboard ATI IGP, the x700 pro, the x800 GTO, x850 XT, x1300, x1600 and obviously the x1900 and x1900 crossfire configuration across multiple platform chipsets (all amd mind you)

Alot of people are finding that having more then 1 stick of memory in the PC durring install causes the install to freeze or crash. Try only using 1 stick of ram durring the install and see what happens.
Once you get back into Windows you will be able to put all the memory back in.

I installed the updated 64bit build after RC1 with 2 sticks of ram installed and my x1900xt without that problem and had no trouble installing the drivers from ATI afterwards but it didnt care for my ULi RAID controller so it went away

could be the ULi controller as well, i haven't given it another shot since trying a number of things..
i figured i'd wait for RC2 of vista and cross my fingers.

Judas, it is simple. You MUST format the partition you previously had your RC1-32 bit on and remove the BSD using BootPart (install and run it on XP for that). Once the boot sector data is deleted, you can start to install 64 bit Vista. Runs perfectly.

i just ran the install of the RC2 within the running RC1, but chose to clean install, and it took another extra 3 mins or so to copy the existing files within the partition... then i removed this files after.
