??? Bootloader problem.

I originally ran Vista, then setup SuSe 10.1 on another partition a few weeks later. I just decided to wipe that partion and set up XP. Once I did that it wiped over the boot.ini and erased my Vista settings. I attempted to edit it, but I screwed it up. I popped the Vista DVD back in and restored the startup files and was able to boot back to Vista, but now cant select to boot to XP. Does anyone know what I need to add to my boot.ini file to set my XP partition as a boot option? Thanks in advanced.

Maybe this can help you:

1. Backup.
2. Reboot and Boot to your XP CD-ROM
3. Start the Recovery Console
4. Run Fixboot
5. Run fixmbr to reset the master boot record:
Boot with the XP installation CD.

When prompted, press R to repair a Windows XP installation.

If repairing a host with multiple operating systems, select the appropriate one (XP) from the menu. If you have only one operating system, enter 1 to select it.

Enter the administrator password if prompted.

To fix the MBR, use the following command:

fixmbr

This assumes that your installation is on the C:\ drive. You will be presented with several scary warning lines the reading of which will make you want to say no. Microsoft is exceptionally vague regarding the conditions under which fixmbr can cause problems although they are clear about the consequences (losing all data on the hard drive), so use this at your own risk.

Type y and ENTER to fix the MBR.

6. Type exit to leave the recovery console and reboot.

7. To remove the extra entry, edit the boot.ini file to remove the "Microsoft Windows Longhorn" entry.

9. Format Your Vista Partition
