Vista RC2 (5744)....No Audio

I finally managed to get Vista (RC2) up and running tonight, but cannot get the audio enabled. When trying to update the High Definition Audio Device which in the previous two builds (RC1 and 5728) I could go install automatically through Windows Update, but now Windows keeps telling me the the best driver is installed, which can't be the case because I still have no sound. Anyone got any suggestions. I have tried going to Realtek website and d/ling the latest beta drivers for Vista and installing them but that didn't help.

You may need to be patient. RealTek is very good about updating drivers.

Just make sure that Windows hasn't installed C-Media drivers instead of RealTek. I've had that happen a few times during Windows Update and Windows STILL wants to install C-Media if I give it a chance.

If I take your meaning right, I'll get an audio driver eventually, but only through Window's Update, correct. I'm not having any problems with C-media drivers, but Windows keeps wanting to install a Nvidia Nforce Midi Uart driver. have no clue why?

If that's the same board as this one: http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...1=3&l2=15&l3=0

then it has an ATI Chipset and Windows is mistaken about the Nvidia Midi driver. That doesn't really surprise me.

What you need to do is 'force' the installation of the correct drivers for the card. That is, don't let Windows detect the drivers. You select the one you know is what you need. You can do that from the Device Manager if you're familiar with how to do it.

I've tried to force the installation through the Device Manager but nothing happens. Windows thinks it has the best driver already installed and won't let me do a darn thing about it. I'm open to any ideas if you have any DS.

Edit: You're right DS, that is the motherboard I have in my computer.

At last success, I found a set of Realtek HD Drivers a few moments ago at Realtek's website and they installed and Vista picked them right up. Now the next task is to try and get my Lexmark Printer and HP scanner working.

Kewl!!!

I'm also holding out hope that my UMAX scanner will be supported. So far, though, even the front man at UMAX doesn't know if they're going to support VISTA.

Installing Audio Drivers for RC2 with my laptop (Some realtek ATI chipset whatever) made me want to punch kittens. After messing around for about an hour, i got the drivers installed, but no sound. For some reason, magically, after i would close my laptop's lid and open it again, it worked fine
