Install starts, but won't read my dvd drive?
I don't get it. I'm trying to install Vista 64 bit on my computer, it's running an Athlon 64 3000+ on a K8N Neo2 Platinum board. I have an older dvd drive in there, I guess maybe that's the problem, but I'm still annoyed.
It starts up the installer just fine, gets to select a language, then before it gets to the next screen, it tells me that I'm missing a required CD/DVD driver and I have to install it. Huh? There's no driver for this thing, it's just a generic windows cdrom driver. I checked NEC's website and the only drivers available for it are for DOS and Windows 3.1... not quite what I'm looking for. So, how do I get this fixed so I can actually install the OS? |

Depending on how old that DVD drive is, you may be in need of a Firmware update. Check online with the manufacturer and see if there are any updates for the firmware. That's likely what you need. |

If you burnt the disk with a newer DVD burner and try reading it on an old DVD reader its only 50% likely to work... unless you've got a Plextor burner (discs those make can be read anywhere, no lie), you may try using a slower burn speed or just copying the files to disk with a borrowed reader from another machine
