Vista and Remote Desktop Connection problem

Hi

I am able to remotely access my company server through XP's Remote Desktop Connection.

I've recent installed Windows Vista RC1, and for some reason RDC doesn't seem to work.
When I try to connect, first I get a 'Windows Security' box saying 'Looking for credential tiles...', then another box appears, saying 'Remote Desktop Connection has stopped working'. After that all I can do is close the program. I've taken screen dump of the error message, but can't work out how to post it here.

Can anyone help me sort this out please?

Thanks

Here's the fix: http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/200...credentials_do

I had the same problem, found that page in Google and it fixed it. Ignore the part with the server changes, just the client parts.

FYI - my problem was due to a third party application causing the problem. I use Screwdriver by Tricerat for printing on the terminal server and this version (3.x) is not compatible with Vista.

That's a drag, Screwdriver is a nice program. Our 2x application client doesn't work since the new RDP came out either.

Glad you figured it out.

I am also getting the Remote Desktop Connection has stopped working error message. The error in my event logs is:

Faulting application mstsc.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b425, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bdc9, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000af1c9, process id 0x1428, application start time 0x01c74e4b1451adf8

I have a support ticket in to Microsoft. The 1st tech to respond to my e-mail exchanges with Microsoft got the trouble mixed up. He thought I am getting the error trying to connect to the Vista Business computer (upgraded from XP Professional) from an XP computer when it is really the reverse. I tried to clarrify this, but my case got transfered to 2nd tech who wanted me to install the new RDP client on the XP Pro box. I reported that this did not help and that trouble is backwards of what is being troubleshooted. As that was on Friday morning I still have not heard back yet from the 2nd tech about the real problem.

Just writing to update. After some clarification about the direction in which I am trying to connect the first tech suggested I disable UAC. After I e-mailed the tech to report that disabling UAC did not help I decided to do some testing.

I found that if I boot with the Safe Mode With Networking choice I can establish an RDP connection with no errors using the public host name of our SBS 2003 server (my VPN connection was no where to be found in this boot).

While I wait to hear from Microsoft on this latest development I will be checking to see if I can find any third party software that is conflicting as per the 4th post in this thread.

Another update. When I changed the Remote computer sound drop down from Bring to this computer to Do not play while not in Safe Mode With Networking I connected with no error. Looks like I will need to wait for updated audio drivers.

Bought a new Acer Travelmate 6292 notebook and when I tried Remote Desktop Connection, it hangs at "Enter your credentials" window.

It shows "Looking for credential tiles" but keeps searching and the input box never shows up.

Interestingly after I cancel, the "Remote Desktop Connection" window stalls but does not get a "No response" error.. just stays there and nothing can be input in that window.

I had to go to task manager to manually End Task.

Anybody has any clue?

Re: Vista and Remote Desktop Connection problem

Willy Foo, if I remeber rightly you have a biometric scanner, fancy name for a finger print scanner. If you have then the software that Acer supply is the problem. To bypass this yo need to do the following

1, Go to Start - > Run
2, type "control userpassword2"
3, go to the advanced tab and click "Manage Passwords"
4, add the server IP or FQDN to the list with the password you wish to use.
5, Set the credential type
