I went with business. The backup features are nice, and it doesn't have all the fluff that I would remove anyway.

A much more complicated, and much more secure way of doing a workgroup of computers. Best way to describe it is this way (according to MS):

"A workgroup is two or more computers networked together. A workgroup is often called a peer–to–peer network because the computers are all peers to one another. No one machine is in charge, and security and other settings have to be made on each individual computer.

In a domain, on the other hand, the networked computers have a definite hierarchy in that computers are either servers or clients. Domains have a unified security policy set on the domain controllers (servers) and users on client machines are authenticated by a server when logging on. The usual rule of thumb is that workgroups are manageable up to about ten computers; after that a domain is recommended."

The best use of domain names is to seperate networks, small or large. Say one area is using one name, such as "DH-S" for DH Sales, while another building/floor uses "DH-ACR" for DH Accounts Receivable.

Anyways, there's a lot more to it, but it'd take a while to explain.

I thought you could log into a domain with Vista, any version, if you use domainname\username, or your UPN name?

I'd probably go Home Basic if I had to simply because I already have enough 3rd party software to handle the multimedia and other tasks that Premium would add.

Still, I'd rather just stick with XP for as long as possible. I hate the idea of giving MS any more cash.

I'm just curious, because I think I will purchase Home Premium, but the only thing really wanting me to lean towards Ultimate is the very neat looking DreamScene.
But do not think that some 3rd party company will create the same sort of program for Vista?

It just seems like it is a very possible option, considering theres knockoffs for everything.
Or maybe I'm just telling myself this.lol!

Video wallpaper? And here I am with a single black background and reverting Windows XP to the Windows Classic theme so I can be productive.

I have WindowBlinds on my other machine with the STEALTHOS skin, but would not have that on my production machine. Too many slowdowns and display anomolies, etc.

I'd still be using Windows 2000 Pro if MS had not dropped support for it, I think. I prefer simple, functional, efficient for my work rig.

I'm sure someone will create a cheap knockoff, but you kow how the sidebar and themes for XP to make it look like Vista - none of them were anywhere near as refined/smooth as Vista actually is - so I'm guessing the video background from MS will work well - but the knockoff will be a bit dodgy

VLC can do that?

It's a shame VLC won't work on 64bit Vista... had to use Media Player Classic

That's a shame. Perhaps there are other players that can do that too.
