the Vista setup program did detect your hard drive, and i think it did not ask you for any drivers for your disk drive,
instead, it wants you to provide a necessary driver that made for your hard drive controller. |

I wouldn't bother with Vista on that machine. Slow-ish processor, no enough RAM, there's not enough space on that partition to install the OS.

I would merge some of those partitions so it has enough room to finish the install.

Have you run the Vista tool under XP in the machine you will be working with? It will tell you a lot about compatibilities with the machine. There's some good diagnostic information there.

Standard IDE hard drives should be totally compatible. But your drive configuration may simply not allow it to function properly, as it is partitioned into very small segments.
If you have an extra IDE drive lying around, you could make it the Primary Master and try formatting and installing on that drive. Or, you could do a full backup of what you have, consolidate all your partitions into one, let Vista format it on install and then try to do the full install. |
