Vista and ATI Control Panel Problem

Below is the error I get after installing Windows Vista Home Premium. Before I bought the program I did check to make sure my computer was compatible. Microsoft said that it was...

Program: ATI Control Panel
Publisher: ATI
Location: C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe

ATI Control Panel is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact ATI.

My processor is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.00 GHz

I don't want to go and download a driver make a mistake and screw up my computer. Please, if anyone would be kind enough to help a newbie out, I'd appreciate it. If you need more information to help me, let me know and I'll find out the information... Thanks!!

I'm confused on that page becuase the sticker on my case says ATI Radeon Xpress 200 and I don't see anything on that page. Probably a stupid question I know, but I'm leery of installing something that might be wrong.

there is the integrated/Motherboard selection where you can find drivers for ATi Radeon Xpress 200

btw. Welcome to DH!

[EDIT] Oh I forgot, remember to select the correct version driver there are 32-bit drivers and 64-bit drivers for Vista...

Thank you!! I downloaded the 32 bit version because I bought Vista retail and was surprised to find out that I have to ask for the 64 bit version and pay more. That part aside though, I got the same error on my first login but the computer updated the hardware, and so I just deleted the old ATI Technologies folder and kept the new ATI folder that it created in the programs list. Hope that was right of me...

Thank god for forums like these!!

CATALYSTCATCHER will become famous soon enough

My guess is that you upgraded XP to Vista and the original ATI control panel remained in place and active. Vista likely installs it's new display driver which the original ATI control panel can not properly identify. However the original control panel will still try to launch and hence the error message.

In any case the correct action is to install the Catalyst 7.1 driver for Vista. This uses the Catalyst Control Center to replace the old style control panel.

The driver on the integrated page and the main Catalyst page for Radeon are identical and support the XPress 200. (Actually if you look closely at the download file names you will see they are both the same file.)

Glad things work out for you.

You can't use the the control panel. You MUST have the CCC.

I have similar problems

Hi All,

I have kinda the same issue.

Except it doesnt generate an error for me. I simply can't get the CCC thingy too work.

I have tried to delete the drivers + the entire ATI folder or ATI related stuff that i could find on my harddisk

Afterwards i went into system / hardware and deleted the driver in there since there came ATI x1950 (microsoft corporation WDDM)

i did a reboot of my system and downloaded the latest ati driver multi language version and installed it.

I can play my games but the control panel (CCC) does NOT work

Please help me in this i kinda get out of ideas

Thanx already

Heres an issue that's recently been happening to me.

IF a ATI drivers have installed properly with no error (check the install log before you exit the installer).. and you reboot to find the ATI Logo icon down by the clock, and right clicking on it does something, but right click the desktop and clicking CCC doesn't do anything, reboot the machine again, do this several times if nessary to get the CCC to launch. If you can't get the CCC to launch uninstall the drivers completely, and reinstall.

If 10 attempts have been made, with no success, my only suggestion is to wait for the next drivers in hopes that this error is corrected.

PLUS submit a ticket to ATI with a full detailed list of your hardware and whatnot along with your issue. The more people send in tickets about this, the faster ati can narrow down the issues and get this resolved.
