Cannot start (code 10) sound problem

Since installing vista ultimate I have no sound. I get an error in device manager stating the above title. I downloaded the latest vista drivers for it from realtek, intel and nothing availabe at asus. I have an p5ad2-E premium MB and intel chipset.

What does your IRQ tables look like, and does your board have Vista drivers?

check the P5AD2-E Premium specification for the onboard audio chipset again,
and if it is C-Media CMI9880 check this page - C-Media Audio Chipset Driver - TechNet Forums

I am running the p5wd2-E prem board and running the latest drives from realtek. Had to reboot then they worked fine. Might be you need to check your bios for an update as that solved another problem for me.

I have i think the same motherboard Asrock Puente Norte: VIA K8T890,Puente Sur: VIA VT8237A,Nombre de la Placa Base ASRock ALiveSATA2-GLAN, Chipset de la Placa Base K8T890CF. This info was caught with Everest . The soundcard is ALC888, at least so it says from the official asrock page. The wierd thing is that Vista installs by default VIA VT8237A High Definition Audio Controller PCI, because everest detects it, but it doesn't say nothing about the ALC888 from realtek.
I wrote mails to microsoft, to asrock and realtek , red tons of forums and NO SOLUTION. The Realtek HD driver 1.86 is simply not working , and i've tried with all versions from 1.51 to date.
Now please if somebody had solved this mistery with this embedded soundcard or simply this chip please post. Thank you
