Vista Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium all lack Offline File capability
This turned out to be a bummer. They took out the ability to have Offline Files with Vista Starter, Home Basic and even Home Premium.
That's gotta suck. Tons of laptops shipped with Windows XP Home and folks were able to work offline with that feature. Come is mega-handy when traveling, for instance. Now they took that feature away. Gotta get Vista Business or Vista Ultimate I guess. Geesh. They really ARE putting the screws to consumers, don't you think? |

Not only are there hotspots everywhere nowadays but I suspect mostly business people used such a feature, thus Vista Business...
Honestly, never used it ever and I can't say I'm too bummed

Users could buy normal laptops and be able to update their blogs or what not offline and then sync later. I was on a train a bit ago and people were doing just that. No hotspots on trains or planes, are there?
Are there very many normal consumer laptops that come with Vista Business? It just BLOWS that Microsoft is jacking up the price by ripping features that were in XP Home and forcing folks to upgrade to their top tier of stuff. |

Wow, I service businesses and even they don't use Offline files; I know of only 1 client of ours that does.
You are mistaken about how Offline Files works. Offline files is not used for bi-directional syncing with websites; it's for syncing with local network shared files, like on a file server. You're also mistaken that XP Home has this feature; it's only available on XP Pro. Once a business feature, still a business feature
