??? A couple Vista questions

The UPGRADE edition of Home Premium is the same (freedom to install it etc) as the full Retail apart from needing an installed or cd of XP, correct? If I upgrade the system, perhaps even the mainboard, I shouldn't have problems as with the OEM, right?

Is it possible to install Vista Home Premium Upgrade having not a retail but an Upgrade version of XP?

Vista Home Premium Retail is at 327 euros here, which is US$437.
Thus my questions above. The OEM edition is at 100 euros ($132) and the upgrade at 229euros = $304

The best would be to get the OEM version but I am afraid it is too limited in allowed hardware upgrades.

unga is on a distinguished road

Do the following:
Install Vista but do not put in the cd key, when you have finished installing you have 30 days to activate. Do not activate, now reinstall Vista using the CD Key. Vista sees an installed version of Windows & you go on your merry way.

Used this myself to do a clean install, but got so excited I started loading programs but used it as an upgradewith the CD Key the second time & it works like a charm. Just be certain to have all the drivers you will need & any important data backed up to another HDD or to a CD/DVD.

Good Luck

Looks good. So the Upgrade edition does NOT lock itself with a mainboard, correct?

So this allows you to use the upgrade edition without having a previous version of Windows?

Yep, a handy little trick all it requires is an extra reinstall, which doesn't impact they system in any way negative.

That's good news. If this problem goes away or explained http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-...sue-vista.html then I might buy Vista after all.

Using it for half a day and apart from the problem above and some weird error messages (rundll32 stopped running do you want to terminate the application, or something) about 10 times when I watch some music videos, the OS looks fine. It doesn't feel slower than XP (Fresh installation too) and I like the extra security features. Oh, funny thing, I tried to access personal folders from my old XP installation on another drive and got the message that I can't due to it being private or something. Where with XP that would be the end of it, just clicking on continue anyway let me access the private files lol. Very funny.

I also tried IE7 for the first time and while better than the previous, I can't see myself moving away from Opera for it.
I like the new Start menu, and the free games included are ok, and finaly an easy chess game! I think I prefer My Computer from XP, but time will tell.
I will continue using it and install a couple of games and if all goes well I will order it.
