Vista Premium Problem!

On friday i built a Intel Core 2 Duo (specs are shown avove) been running windows vista for the since then it's been running extremly smooth.

Untill yesterday morning when i booted up my pc vista went straight to the point where vista needed activating. Also in the bottom right corner was the message "This Version of Vista is Not Legal". Even though it is a Genuine Vista Upgrade Disk. (Not a OEM Version).

Because of this it also left me with a extremely limited operation of windows. And the activation options page pops up on every boot up.

1) Activate Online Now.
2) Telephone Activaion Method
2) Buy a New Liscence (No chance,it's around $180 if it comes to that it's cheaper to buy a new disk)

I have been forced to drop back to windows xp so i have internet access. So any sort of help in removing any files can't be done.

By the way Vista was activated on my last pc,Obviously the motherboard/cpu/memory was differnet since then.

I may reinstall vista later this week.So if this problem starts again what would be the best route to sort it out.

Would a phone call to vistas activation line be the most obvious choice first.

It just might be good to call Vista activation line. Or in general to Microsoft's support. Since it sounds like problems that you would have if you had OEM version of Vista. That's why I have retail version so that the Hardware can be changed. I just need re-activate Vista

yep, call the 1-800-xxx numbers that is listed for your country/regions, the Microsoft agents are nice people and very helpful.
it's just sometimes you won’t understand their English, so be patient with them.

They would have a job to understand my english!

Been using windows vista again for the last 36 hours or so and the problem has not shown up this time. And i hope i have not spoken to soon.

If this keeps up i won't be going back to xp..I actually want to use most of the 30 days i have to activate.

I had a few minor problems with the original bios set up....These and the performance seems to be a huge improvement since i flashed the p5k bios to version 0404.Im not sure ill try the 0505 bios for the board as it shows up as a beta version.

I have an oem and changed my motherboard, processor and video card an I had no problem calling them and reactivating just like XP. They lifted that restriction a long time ago. Ofcourse they can apply it again also.

i have experienced that myself, so i know they allows for certain case. i also found out later that other people that i know who are also having to redo the activation, because of the motherboard malfunction and they needs to change them, Microsoft also allowed them to reactivate their copies of Vista OEM. however, it might be that it's just a case-by-case exemptions.
i think, whether your copy of Vista is OEM or whatever, it's best to just call Microsoft for help in this matter.

Yea I had no problems re-activating Vista OEM after upgrading mobo, cpu, memory. Just needed a phonecall.

If the problem's not there now, check under the system properties to see what it says is the activation status, if it starts happening again ring them straight away and get it sorted, it's a legal copy as you said so nothing at all to worry about.

From what I understand, and I'm not going to read the whole darn thing, the XP eula says that it is only suppose to be used on one pc, one motherboard just the same as Vista but that was never inforced either. I think MS would shoot themselves in the foot if they inforced that since a lot of people upgrade once a year or so. At this point a lot of motherboards aren't compatible with it so I'm sure thats another reason.

I'm sure there wont be any problems in reactivating... Even though the system that was introduced early is quite poor in my opinion.

At this time i have 27 days left, and this is now a longer period than before. It looks as though the mobos bios update has resolved more than it first appeared.

So far Vista is running extremely smooth now.especially compared to my last pc..
