Vista's ReadyBoost
Hey since I got Vista about a week ago and I've been wondering how much would 1Gb ReadyBoost USB drive would speed up my system? Since I have only 1Gb of RAM installed....

Tomshardware did a benchmark awhile ago when vista came out. They actually tested quite a few mid range systems with varying amounts of ram with Readyboost.
Anyways, here is the link for your reading pleasure. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/...zed/index.html |

All I know is my laptop seems much slower when using a SD card for ReadyBoost instead of just swapping off my HDD... The superfetch however works wonders on my main system.

If using readyboost, make sure you use a real fast USB pen, like adata pd7 or corsair voyager GT.
If using slow usb pens or mem cards, readyboost can actually slow down the machine in some situations. |

Readyboost on several of the high speed dual channel READYBOOST ready OCZ models (2gb - 8gb) have all produced slower results for me....

basically nothing compairs to good old fashioned ram but you can pick
say up a 1GB cosairturbocache ready drive for like $20 though it all still questionable though, and many reccomend 2X your physical ram then again your useing raid aren't ya?

Works well for me with an 4GB Flash Voyager GT..set the entire drive to ReadyBoost, and I have 4GB of Ram.

I think the rumor is that Vista SP1 is going to make some big improvements to readyboost. There may be something in the News section with details.

But thanks guys for the replies as you have answered my main question...time to look around for a drive to set this up in the next couple of months. |
