I quit doing business with Creative because their drivers and software are not well-behaved. That is, they use system calls and features that are not standard, that Microsoft never intended to be used that way (basically they use EXPLOITS to make their crap work) and then when Microsoft fixes it, every other card vendor's stuff works fine but their stops working. Then they refuse to fix it, or the fix they offer only does it halfway (you can NEVER get the control software installed for an Audigy 2 on XP SP2 unless you initially install it under SP1). In other words, Creative Lab's software does not use good programming practices, and their customer support is poor.
Some of their practices border on outright fraud. Consider that they were still producing and selling the Audigy 2 for a long time after Service Pack 2 came out, even though the software would no longer work on new systems. Basically, people were paying for features they could not install or use because they refused to let you download the updated applications from their website, instead only releasing patches to the no-longer-installable original applications. They refused to provide proper driver and software support for it even as production continued. If that's not despicable, what is? Last edited by WardenWolf; Aug 12, 2007 at 11:18 PM. |

wupps forgot to post this in this forum:
GOT IT!!!!!!!! the shame the shame.... i changed the temp directories in "enviromental variables" and by accident changed the "windir" directory to my temp directory (to quick to tired). seems sound panel is looking for "%windir%/system32/mmsys.dll" ... sight... and I looked in my windows dir and I found it... so I figured must be reference wrong and suddenly I rememberd I played with things I should not play with
