Am I the only person that likes vista and hasnt had any real problems?
I put vista ultimate 32bit on my new rig so I can start getting used to it for a full switchover. I also installed xp home (what I have been running for 3 years) in small partition on my raid array just so I would have something reliable to go to if Vista was full of bugs. Well, going on two weeks now and I havent booted XP since I installed it and got all the dirvers installed.... Every now and then a program (usually old ones without formal vista support) will fail to load on the first try, but a retry or reboot usually fixes it.
I cant even see myself reinstalling Linux... One thing that really impressed me, was when I installed vista on my old rig to get a feel for it before I built my new one, it detected configured by ethernet card perfectly without having to install any drivers. Maybe it just has a better generic driver database, but this was the element I loved best about Linux (Fedora 6). |

No, you're not alone, I like it too! I have been using Ubuntu some though at work for virtualization, and am liking it for the most part.

Im another one who agrees with you...Vista runs exceptionally well, after all i just spent £400 + on hardware to make the most out of windows vista.
But i also think vista does take some time to get used to,it's not quite so user friendly as i found windows xp to be.It don't take to long to get used to.. Even though i still have 20 days to activate vista,i can certainly see myself dropping xp. |

There is a vista Rollcall thread, you arne't alone... there are ALOT of us without a single glitch/hitch/performance issues at all.
My vista runs exceptionally faster then XP ever did.

I think all the negative publicity is coming from people that are not all that computer literate. It was probably one of the easiest installs I've done to date. Windows NT was a nightmare, Vista Ultimate was very easy and I really like it. ![]() I also noticed that once I installed it, the dropped connections I was receiving while working on my laptop have completely stopped. It is running so much faster. Can't complain. |

The install process on most recent (past 5 years) operating systems is pretty damn easy; Fedora 6 being the easiest I have experienced.
The one thing I really liked about the vista install is that I didnt have to load my raid driver untill I was at the partition screen. It was nice not have to worry about missing the cue to load a raid/scsi driver and have to restart. |

I too am quite pleased with Vista. Been using it since the beginning of February, and actually experienced fewer Vista-related bugs than I did with XP. Only problems I had were driver-related, and even those have been solved over time. In fact, at one point I switched back to XP for a week because of a device I got that didn't have a Vista driver, and I couldn't stand it. Switched back to Vista, and managed to get the XP driver working on it, so now I have no reason to go back to XP.

I was 100% happy with Vista till last weeks updates LOL. Now I sometimes have to reboot so my PC connects to my router. Oh well i'll figure it out. Other than that I'm really impressed with vista and can't wait to find out what SP1 brings.

I think someone was right when they said vista is getting a little bit of a bad rep because the people complaining really have no clue how to get an opperating system up and running, or they are the anti-microsoft nutswingers that will say the same thing regardless of the product.

I had a trialware version installed for a month. Tried it for a couple of weeks. Then I lost interest. I just don't find a good enough reason to change OS. Looks are not that important to me, I use Classic windows for my XP too. I didn't find anything particularly wrong with Vista. I had a strange issue where the PC would completely switch off the hard drives and require a cold boot to turn them on when I warm restart Vista. Still, all in all a good experience using Vista, even run a XP game that refuses to run under XP due to nvidia driver issues.
So, no complains, just not reason to change to Vista.

I switched because I want easy directx10 support mainly, and eventualy software developers will try to phase xp out.
The only thing I wish was different about my rig is some extra ram, 4gb would be nice, I will probly get some more soon. Does anyone know if the p35 boards take a performance hit when all the ddr2 memory slots are filled? (heard this was true with some other board) |

I am having problems with the Sleep mode, it does not wake up the GFX card when coming out of sleep mode. I actually have to shut off the PSU to restart the PC. It also seems naggy to me what with all the permission to continue pop-ups. I am just starting to experience it though...

AFAIK, i may be wrong, there are like 100+ of supported hotfixes that are not available (to download) publicly from Microsoft, these hotfixes are intended to correct some specific problem only (and may be a hotfix available for an issue like yours already). some of these may still receive additional testing, therefore, they are not available for Windows Update yet. Microsoft recommends that we should wait for the next service pack that contains all of these hotfixes. however, if you need to resolve the specific problem immediately, you can contact the Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix.

The permission message things will start to go away after you use it a bunch, at least mine have.
The sleep issue you are having is odd, havent heard of it or experianced anything similar myself. This is just a hunch but try it: Go into your BIOS and select whatever section contains your power managment/control settings. Turn off 'wake with mouse movement/keyboard/etc"..., and set it up so you press the power button to wake the computer back up. With my motherboard, this was achieved by simply turning off all the other 'wake' options. |

I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit at work and Vista Ultimate 64 bit at home. I am happy with Vista. There are some minor things that I hope will get worked out. I dread having to use XP at all anymore.

Hoenstly i love it. Now that the video drivers are working much better on my laptop i am very happy with it. Honestly outside of a little better performance out of my XPS video wise i am completely happy. I love the look and feel.

)Never Say Never until you give it a try.. (I bet you will given time) ![]() Yup you do need a top notch pc to make the most out of vista.Which could be the main problem for a good majority of people. |

The key is 2 gigs of ram and a dual core cpu... considering the cost of both now it is really not that much of top notch anymore. My 930 p4 (2 x 3 ghz) with 2 gig or ram ran it flawlessly. The cpu is less then 100 now and the memory is about the same.

I must like it. My main Rig has Vista HP 64 and I just bought a second copy of HP64 for another machine, both are running great, but I won't replace my XP64 on my second Rig. I now have three 64 bit MS OS machines.
