My vista skips...stutters...mouse skips...help annoying...
Okay I get this issue where every once in awhile my Vista will stutter, and my mouse will stutter CONSTANTLY where it is un-use able. Think of it like this, remember in Back to the Future II when McFly is in the future Cafe place and Michael Jackson starts saying the drinks, then he skips like 5 times, that is EXACTLY what happens to me. Say I am playing a movie in Media Player Classic, or even playing a game, the mouse just constantly skips, and skips and skips all over the place. I know it's not my mouse because i have tried two different ones, a wireless and a corded. So I don't understand what is going on. Anyone have any idea? It does not happen in XP.
Remember my stats are below.

I beleive your 7950GX2 may be the culprit.... do a search on microsoft for a hotfix related to your card....

There was a known problem where vista and nvidia's implementation of the dual GPU video cards would cause plenty of problems... Now i'm not sure how it effects things....
from what i understand, your having only issues with your mouse correct? Everything else plays fine/runs fine/smooth right? while i wouldn't typically say it's the video card... i just heard that there were some strange issues that arouse with them. Have you tried a standard PS/2 mouse? Also in the bios, try enabling/disabling Legacy USB support.

--sigh-- i hope there is nothing wrong with my video card, but it does not stutter or skip in XP. That's what doesn't make sense. I mean when the computer is thinking the mouse shouldn't be effected, because it makes any game I play un-playable.

I honestly can't think of the issue..
other then perhaps another USB device killing the mouse itself as well..... If i recall right, some Printer Pollers have caused issues like that...

Are you running with the Aero interface turned on (that allows 3D flipping of windows, and transparencies)? If so, try turning it off (ie. use the Vista Basic interface).
I think Judas is on the right track with the nVidia card. Vista Aero is 3D, and uses features of the video card to run. Since you are having the problem in both Windows desktop and games it's a pretty safe assumption. Also, by default that card runs with SLI enabled (I think it's called Multi-GPU mode). You may want to try turning it off just as a test. Honestly, this isn't the first time I've seen issues with this card, and it all stems from the way the card handles the bridging between the 2 halves. |
