Vista & Printer Spooler

I recently got a Canon iP4300 Printer. I use Vista Ultimate and I installed it fine from the disc. I don't use the printer often, so it usually stays off. Today I went to print a paper and I couldn't. I was getting a printer spooler service error and no printer could be recognized. Now I looked this up and it's pretty widespread, but it usually is because of an old/incompatible driver. The problem is, there's no entry anywhere for uninstallation. I've tried installing new drivers, but it gives me a spooler error again. Can anyone help me?

Goto Canons site and look for newer drivers for it. If there are install them. Otherwise you might use Vista's own driver.

The problem is I can't install the newer drivers. I get a printer spooler error saying its not started even if it is. Vista also won't recognize the printer when plugged in via usb.

I've tried that too, but it just crashes once i try to print etc. Vista is up to date as well. I basically need a way to uninstall the older canon drivers manually. There is no folder etc that I see.

Control Panel > Printers > Server Properties > Drivers > Select and remove

Not sure if this functionality is present in XP, if it is, I never noticed it.

I can't even do that i get a "print spooler error not running" when it is. I've been able to install drivers, but the printer still isnt recognized. I've seen fixes for Lexmark printers, but not for canon. it's driving me nuts. It worked fine one day. It must be an old incompatible driver i installed or some software. thanks for the suggestion though.

If you check driver details under properties for printers in the device manager, it gives you a list of any driver files installed.

Not sure if I'd advocate deleting stuff this way though, not even sure if it will work, WFP might kick in and keep everything there.

the problem is that vista is treating it like there was never a printer, so there is no entry under device manager. When i plug in the usb cable to my comp, i dont get a add new hardware etc. i get a 0x000006be error if i try to "add a printer" from the printer cp page. thanks again

EcPercy has a spectacular aura aboutEcPercy has a spectacular aura aboutEcPercy has a spectacular aura about

I just started having this problem today. My printer has been working fine since I built this computer in April.

I have an Oki 3200n. I was using the XP 64 bit drivers. Now every time I attempt to print I get "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I have tried removing all printers, drivers, anything in the spooler folder. Registry entries associated with the printers that were installed, but I still have the same problem.

I can't make sense of it.

EDIT: I suspected my problem was due to one of the system updates that was applied the other day so I performed a system restore. Now everything is back to normal. Once I get some more time I will apply the microsoft patches and the other updates to see which one caused this problem.

EDIT AGAIN: I reinstalled all of the microsoft updates one at a time and printing is still working normally, even after a reboot. I reinstalled the Nvidia Nforce 15.08 package and now I am having problems with the spooler again. I am going to use system restore to roll back to the 15.01 nforce drivers and try to see if other people are having this issue with the nforce package. (Keep in mind I am using TCP/IP based printing and I am able to add other types of printing ports like LPR and COM so I assume that there is an issue with the nvidia ethernet drivers that is causing this problem)
