The tone settings for bass balance in the Speakers Properties (control panel, sound) does not apply the previously picked level when the system starts up fresh. While the slider displays at the previously set position, the actual bass output is at a different level, probably around the 0.0dB mark and I need it to be lower.
I wonder if this might be a known Vista issue or if it's just the creative drivers. I have used both the latest official driver for my Audigy2 and the Audigy2 driver present in the latest X-Fi package. Perhaps someone with a non-creative card has the same experience in regard to these tone settings in Vista?

Can someone please try this with an X-Fi card? Setting the bass balance to something low and see if it remains low (the actual speaker output) after a system restart.

And the solution is... :drumroll:
Putting a notch in the Bass Boost box section of the Creative Speaker Settings program makes the system detect and activate the bass/treble balance set in the regular Vista controls mentioned above. The only parts of the Creative software that should be necessary to do this is Creative Speaker Settings and Creative Volume Panel, the latter which is automatically executed at startup to kick the settings into place. A disproportionally large CD image with the Creative software can be found at the Creative forum: Unofficial SB Audigy Series Software CD (Rev 2) for Win 2000 / XP / Server2003 / Vista (32/64-bit) - Windows Vista - Creative Labs

Confirming that this method works with Vista x64 as well.
