Vista Install Hangs after Loading screen

I get to the Windows Loading files screen, then the green loading bar, then the install hangs. I'm wondering if there is an oddball Bios setting causing this, or a hardware problem. Everything is detected in the Bios.

WIndows Vista Basic
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4
Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1gig
2 gig ram
WD 320gb sata
lite-on dvd writer-ide

What SATA operating mode you have selected in the BIOS?
If it's AHCI then I would recomend to reinstall Vista and use the Preinstall driver floppies. That has worked for me on intel based mobos in the past.

I have it set to Native IDE, which is the default setting. At one point I switched the setting to AHCI to see if it made a difference, but it didn't. This is a brand new system, so I don't have an installation to reinstall.

The only setting in the SATA type menu that I didn't try was Legacy IDE.

That is odd. Vista should natively support SATA drives and controllers. Can you boot the Vista on safe mode?

vista should boot even if it doesn't work with any hardrive being available..

Have you tried unplugging all usb devices including flash drives and printers and only having your nessary items plugged in like the mouse and keyboard monitor?

Find an option for USB Legacy Support and you may have to enable or disable it....

Oh and i'd also suggest running a thorough Memtest ..... bad memory can certainly cause this

I disabled the USB Legacy support option, now everything is working like a charm This turned out to be the quickest Windows install I've ever been through.

Thanks for your help everyone!
