Emu APS on vista

Since it did sound from forums that a lot of creative labs cards are running in vista 32 with kx driver, I installed the latest kx 3545b, hoping to resurrect my beloved emu aps card (bf00), that worked fine in XP.

There is no sound (tried cleaning my ears, wiping the dust off the speakers etc. -fruitless). The "wave out6\7" of the vista mixer shows signal when you play a file in media player (a flickering beacon of hope). Fiddled with resetting speakers in kx mixer (as suggested in kx "help") and checked all the outputs on the card (got a clicking noise - a huge leap forward compared to the initial dead silence - but still not enough)

Am I to be shackled to XP for all eternity or somebody has gotten their Emu APS to run in vista?....
