Vista Dosn't Use Full 8Gigs Memory(32-bit)

I just barely had windows Vista intalled to my PC like not to long ago i would say like 3 or 2 weeks ago. I got Windows Vista Ultimate OEM and my PC isnt to bad actualy I got the new Nvidia Gefource 280MX 1GB, 8Gigs mem, Dua Core 2 Intel, nFource 680i SLI Ultra, Sound Blaster X-fi Fataility Pro Series. pretty much the only thing that slows me down is my proccessor...
Well anyways i heard that windows Vista support 8Gigs of memory Well just today i realized windows vista Reads 8 gigs but is not supporting it. when i go to Computer>Properties it says i have 8 gigs so im like ok thats cool
But then i go to Dxdiag and i realized Memory has 3070MB as if it was XP so im like wtf? but then i thought nah its just direct x it hasnt been updated or somthing so i go to Task Manager. And surprizely it to says the sytem has only 3069MB so then im thinking wtf so it reads 8 Gigs but yet only uses 3 as if it was XP.
So yeah im woundering if anyone else is having this problem or what and has it been fixed or somthing because this is pretty whack i run servers and play games on the same system so i need alot of memory. but im pretty pissed becasue it reads 8 Gigs but only uses a limit of 3 Gigs thats pretty retarded for a operating system. and i was thinking in my mind no woudner thats why i lag at times...cuz im like wtf i got a perfect system to not lag but hah all this time it was just the OS not using all my system availble power

Well here is one of your issues. A 32-bit operating system has a 32-bit addressing system or 4,294,967,296-bytes of memory aka 4GB of RAM to address. What you need to get access to the rest of your memory is Vista 64 or XP 64 although I would recommend Vista 64 as it has a larger support base now. So yeah it is impossible for your version of Vista to support the amount of memory in your system.

Oh and the Reason your system only shows 3GB on your system is because of your GTX 280 if you used onboard it would show 4GB. That 4GB address limit includes all types of system memory Physical, Graphics, Audio card, and Virtual memory.

Neither XP 32-bit, nor Vista 32-bit, nor any other 32-bit OS will support over 4 GB of RAM. Like caqde said, it's the limitation of 32-bit Windows and has nothing at all to do with the difference between XP and Vista.

A 32-bit OS can only address a total of 4GB and it will take into consideration all the memory required by the BIOS, the Video Card, etc.

So, frankly, there's nothing at all wrong with your system nor the readings you're seeing. It's what you should be seeing.

If you want the full effect of all the RAM, the only way is to go with a 64-bit OS.

You _could_ make a ramdrive and put swap there. Could be even better than addressing the whole memory space.

install x64 and you won't have any RAM limitations for a while... 128gb or something like that

That's because of memory limitations caused on 32bit, compared to 64bit.
I suggest to go with Vista 64bit instead of XP 64bit, because you already have vista

You can check the different Vista 64bit editions here, because they have and different memory limitations (8,16,128 GB).
