Vista impressions

OK, here we go.

Short version: I like it.

Long version: when I first decided to give it a shot this summer or so, I had ASUS M2A-VM HDMI which has SB600 with AHCI bug and RS690 with too small stock cooling. It took me a while to figure out that something is f***ked up with AHCI on SB600, and then I read that Gigabyte fixed it but ASUS didn't. So, anyway I disabled AHCI and voila! Since Vista is pretty resource-intensive, and I use a mATX case, it had lots of problems with overheating. It hung pretty often.

So, now after I decided to sell that machine, and I was building new machine, I decided to:
1) wait
2) give more money
just to get a board that doesn't have SB600. So I opted for ASROCK A770CrossFire (AMD 770 w/CrossFire enabled + SB700) instead of ECS A770M-A (AMD 770 + SB600). Added Radeon HD 4670 in the mix. It's hella cheap. It doesn't require great PSU. It's hella fast. ATI got it right this time.

And now it works. No, not works. It works great. I'm impressed, Microsoft really did something with this OS.

I also gave it a shot on my other PC, with ASROCK K10N78FullHD-hSLI R3.0. Works great too.

One thing I would love, however, if drivers weren't offered on Windows Update. Luckily, they aren't automatically installed. Also, I would love if Vista didn't pretend to be too smart and suggest me to install Creative X-Fi drivers on E-Mu 1212m. I would understand if it was Audigy drivers, but X-Fi?

I like new audio stuff, even though it's not necessary for cards that natively do hardware mixing. But 99% of today's cards (HDA) don't, so it's good. I like it. It has nice VU-meters and stuff. It's glitzy.

As Vista in generaly. It's really glassy, and nice. It's fast, and I'm in love with that new suspend that also turns fans off after a while, when it has cooled your hot PC case.

Oh, and kX works. Without that, it would score a 0 in my books.
