Processor Power Management?

Would like to know what's the requirement for this option to show up in vista under Power Options, is showing up dependant on motherboard or processor?

Anyone else use it? I currently have it set at 5% min, 100% max. (rig sig)

All it seems to do is set my cpu multipier to 12 when it's running idle, and puts it back to 20/21 when under load. I see no reason to not have it on. i may be wrong?

I know the UD5 has dynamic energy saver but i dont think it's related to processor power management (ppm). Is PPM a vista function for dual+ cores only? My only other PC using vista is single core and there is no option for PPM.

Re: Processor Power Management?

Just checked and mine is set at 100% min and max as default. I think this is just a useless Vista feature myself but could be wrong *shrugs*

PPS: I have run Vista X64 on a Gigabyte board and currently an ASUS ... how could Vista power options affect BIOS settings like cpu multipliers?

Re: Processor Power Management?

CPU-Z shows my computer as being on a 12 multiplier when idle, and 21 when under load when using 5-100%.

If the setting is present is there any reason why it shouldnt be set at, say, 5-100% ?

When I first installed vistax64 it defaulted to "balanced" power options which had 5-100% as default.

Coz according to coretemp, when in 5% state it's saving over 100 Watts.

Re: Processor Power Management?

Wow I didn't know it affected the system that way you learn something new everyday

I will have to experiment with it a bit more I know there are BIOS settings to do this but wasn't aware the OS did so.

EDIT: Since both my main machines here run 24/7 even while I am at work I am going to try the 5% to 100% setting myself on them this week.
