Just installed Vista 64!
Hey , I got a brand spanking new Samsung 500GB HDD and installed Vista 64.
First time Iam using a 64bit OS. Its bloody fast compared to my 32 bit on on my old 160GB HDD. could be cos of the faster HDD or the use of the full 4GB RAM or it just being 64bit maybe all 3.anyways I noticed that the Windows disk has 2 Program Files folders. the 2nd one says (x86) at the end. is this normal? Iam assuimg thats where the 32 bit programs get installed. Do i need to install 32 bit software in that folder or can I just put them, anywhere?? Any other tips on how to make this even faster would be highly appreciated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Just installed Vista 64!
Welcome to 64 bit scurvy, you're absolutely right your 32 bit programs get installed to Program Files X86. Any 32 bit software will default to that folder without you having to do anything

And you could install applications wherever you please, the division is there to help keep commonly shared files apart.

64bit windows is racist against the 32bit programs..... therefore they are seperated

![]() Vista 64's SuperFetch will use that extra memory to pre-load applications that you use frequently, so that they are already in memory when you want them, and not have to go to the HDD, and then load them. It makes a BIG difference. Even with 4GB, you will notice that in a week or two that your system will 'seem' faster as SuperFetch optimises itself, based on your usage patterns.

Re: Just installed Vista 64!
Digidesign MBox 2 Pro, some crappy lil CMI based USB card - I suppose the onboard realtek chip would work, but I actually broke the output jack... (headphones still work though) - If i could fix that I'd have no problem
I suppose Macdrive 7 supports x64 now, so that's no problem, Apple have x64 drivers for all the components in my mac pro might give x64 a try when Win 7 comes around, or I get a new HDD (whichever comes first)
