Disabling drag and drop
Is it possible to disable drag and drop when using the left mouse button? So that it is impossible to copy or move a file like that. Right mouse button drag and drop is fine.

Yes, it looks like it isn't that customizable after all.

Re: Disabling drag and drop
The only thing I can think of is to use TweakUI to tweak the sensitivity, or the threshold of the drag function. The option tells Windows that before it drags "whatever" the mouse has to move, with the button held down, so many pixels before it actually drags the item, or rather before it considers it a drag & drop function. By default I think it's set to 4.
Edit: come to think of it, I remember seeing a "fix" for people that have lost drag & drop functionality, and the fix was done via 2 registry files. I wonder... if you delete, or change those settings listed in the registry files, would it break drag & drop?

Re: Disabling drag and drop
I'll post the registry file contents that fix drag & drop, but as for trying to delete them myself... that will have to wait until later today... when I can fool around with a system that I don't care if it gets pooched or not.
Of note, this fix was originally for XP, but it should be similar for Vista too (can't confirm this at the moment.. especially since I'm using my phone to type this). ___________________________ REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0000010e-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="IDataObject" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0000010e-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\NumMethods] @="12" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0000010e-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32] @="{00000320-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000320-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="oleprx32_PSFactoryBuffer" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000320-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ole32.dll" "ThreadingModel"="Both" I know for fact that you do not want to delete the last one that points to ole32.dll. If you do.. hahahaha.... your f***ed. |

Re: Disabling drag and drop

to what purpose? |

Way too many times, usually when dealing with the windows explorer, I have moved files when I didn't want. If it was disabled, I wouldn't have this problem.

Re: Disabling drag and drop
1) RIGHT click on start button
2) select Properties 3) in "Taskbar and start menu properies" select the "Start Menu" Tab 4) Select "Customize" (doesnt matter if you are using the classic or general style) 5)Click on advance and scroll to search "Enable Drag and drop" 6) Uncheck it 7) Click Apply... it will work " That is only for the start menu and no it is not a bug. The method you want to use is below: 1. Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK. 2. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-ins. 3. Click Add, click Group Policy, click Add, click Group Policy or Local Policy, and then click Finish. 4. Click Close, and then click OK. 5. Expand User Configuration, and then expand Windows Settings. 6. Under Windows Settings, expand Internet Explorer Maintenance, and then click the Security object. 7. In the right pane of Microsoft Management Console (MMC), double-click Security Zones and Content Ratings. 8. Under Security Zones, click to select the Import the current security zones settings check box, and then click the Modify Settings button. 9. Under the Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings section, click My Computer, and then click Custom Level in the Security level for this zone section. 10. In the Security Settings section, scroll down to the Downloads section and change the option from Disabled to Enabled under File download. 11. Under the Miscellaneous section, under the Drag-and-drop or copy and paste files option, if the option is set to Disabled, change the option to Enabled. Reboot the system and it should give the following message when you try to drag and drop: Security Alert Your current security settings prohibit copying or moving files from this zone. However this will disable all drag and drop operations period...and can be more annoying than helpful if you need to drag and drop. No, you need to click FILE and add/remove snap in. Action menu is not used. (CTRL+M is the shortcut)

Re: Disabling drag and drop
Thank you for the effort JazzyJaz. Yeah, I would rather keep the drag and drop for the right mouse button, so I won't use the above. Still, thank you.

None of the above look not scary enough to start deleting things to see if it could work. Thanks though.
