erasing data
Easy and free way to erase data from hard drives so that one couldn't easily use an undelete program to possibly recover data from it?

(HDDs to be sold)

Low Level format provided by the company responcible for manufacturering the hardrive.

IF anyone is gonna bother trying to recover anything after that...... just fill the sucker up again with garbage data and low level format.....

Seatools has a low level format if I remember correctly, you download it from Seagate's web site

Almost every manufacturer has a low level format utility.. it's usually ALWAYS part of their diagnostics software.

I've got

Samsung
Seagate (maxtor)
Fujitu
Hitachi
Western Digital

and i think a few others laying around here all of which are capable of "low level format" "full erase" "0 Write" "full 0 write" etc and so forth...

Hitachi's low level format is kinda funny as it asks you if you are sure about 4 or 5 times in a row

I'm not really sure in what state the drives are left after the process, I remember once doing a low level format on a USB drive and Windows XP being unable to format it afterwards (but Windows 7 RC came to the rescue).
