MS Config- Maximum Memory
I can't raise it. Using 32 bit vista and it keeps reseting to 2048.
I've tried safe mode, admin mode and the same results. It resets to 2048 as soon as I click "okay" or uncheck the edit box. |

Re: MS Config- Maximum Memory
That setting is only for limiting memory downwards for troubleshooting. Uncheck that box and the operating system will enable the use of all of the memory that it can.

Re: MS Config- Maximum Memory
There are other reasons, for using that setting, but like MKK said, unless it's necessary, just leave that unchecked.
There are people that have TDR issues who find it necessary to go to that advanced boot setting and specify the number of processors/cores that their system has, and to also specify the max memory to keep from getting 0x00000016 BSODs. I know this because I'm one of those. What's interesting is, that in my case, with 8GB RAM, it defaults to 7xxx RAM. I haven't really made an effort to figure out why that happens. It could be a BIOS setting that is 'using' that 'missing' 1GB. You didn't give much in the way of system specs. Are you using onboard video, and if so how much RAM have you dedicated to it? That could explain some of the 'missing' RAM since that's what onboard video uses for the video memory.
