Question About Vista SPs

Sigh! Well my son has screwed his computer up again, so I'm wondering if the SP for Vista are available. I read somewhere recently that Vista SP1 was no longer supported by MS. The Vista Ultimate disk I have is dated back in 2006. Just wondering if I'll have any problems with Window's Update? I am contemplating upgrading him to Win 7 Home Premium but but really don't have the cash to spend right now.

Re: Question About Vista SPs

SP2 is still available, only SP1 has had its support stopped. You shouldn't have any problems with Windows Update; if you don't have a service pack installed or you have SP1 installed then the update service will update Windows automatically to the latest service pack and all of its corresponding patches.

SP1 no longer being supported by Microsoft simply means that they want you to update Windows to SP2; you won't loose anything.

Re: Question About Vista SPs

I recommend you disconnect from the internet first.. reinstall vista fresh..

and if you can.. download from another machine... OR PRIOR to install fresh vista.... the SP1 full pack (standalone) as well as SP2..

Then after installing vista fresh.. install SP1 first.. wait till it's completed... then install SP2... and wait till it's done.. then plug the computer into the internet and let it download the latest... THIS will be much much faster and easier.. less troublesome..

you can get SP1 standalone here

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) | Download, Deploy, Support

and SP2 standalone here

Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Vista SP2 | Download Service Pack | TechNet

Make sure you select the 32bit (x86) or the 64bit (x64) version that your running... as you cannot install x64 onto a 32bit os.. and vice versa.
