THE CURRENT LCD MONITORS DOES NOT SUPPORT RESOLUTIONS ABOVE 1280x1024 ANYWAY EXCEPT THE BIG ONES (above the 19 inch) and he is talking about 1920x1080 with LCD monitors ?? How many people are having a expensive 21" or larger LCD monitor that supports so high resolutions ?? (1920x1080 in a LCD please only the most professional and very expensive monitors supports these kind of resolution )The average users (worldwide) out there just do not have these kind of monitors The most of them just have a 17-19" LCD with support up to 1280x1024 Max resolution or a CRT monitor I am having a fairly large CRT 22 Monitor with support resollution up too 2048x1536 Do i need to give 1000000$ in a Big High resolution LCD with maybe Ghosting problems for my games or dead pixel problems just to run the Vista for HDCP?? ![]() And how many monitor with HDCP support exists out there ?? 10 ?? I just do not want to buy a LCD monitor with the current technology anyway Something just does not seems right to these article and he is overeacting or he is right and Microsoft forgot us all These feature is a optional one for the LCD monitors and cards that support HDCP and the resollution of 1920x1080 (Not less) from what i understand Not a big deal to me i never used that resolution anyway even if my card and CRT monitor already supports it and even if it is not a LCD I think will enjoy Vista and watching movies in my PC even without that Last edited by Alien1; Feb 15, 2006 at 03:29 PM. |

Not a big deal to me. I can't afford a monitor that runs at 190923743476 X 124985278952579 anyway. Mountains out of mole-hills if you ask me.
With all change comes growing pains. It's not different for any other change in the computer/technology industry. Anyone who expects to get more than a couple years with their components and still have support for all the new tech is just kidding themselves. If you want that, you'd better go sign an SLA with IBM, pay $80,000 a year, and have them upgrade your machine every three days.

for gamers stay with xp and/or switch to linux is not an option.....halo 2 will be vista only and if miscrosoft is doing that im sure other game companys will 2.......everyone start writeing the game companys and tell them to start makeing linux games =) reactos (search google) will have direct X support soon =O and boycotting vista is a very good idea but most will still buy it and billy gates has so much money he wont give ashit

Game companies will still be making games for windows Xp for a long time to come. It takes a couple years before they will stop programing for XP. Boycotting Vista is pretty silly, and will be fruitless. MS will have their way.
The whole Halo thing is a gimmick, I don't think anyone with half a brain will purchase a brand new, unproven OS to play a 2-3 year old game. Other game companies won't make the switch right away because they realize not everyone is going to have the $300.00 to buy the fancy new OS that is filled with holes, if they even want to switch. The game developers would be throwing gobbs of money away, and they know that. Again, this run around is not going to be any different then the last three OS releases. Mountains out of mole-hills...

Things nobody is mentioning:
1 - Vista is due out december the 10th, I think...thus, the fall product line will be crucial. 2 - Some Sony media Center PC's have HDCP support....fully...card and GPU...so it DOES exist, just not in stand alone retail cards 3 - No video cards much support WGF yet either, so we'd all be buying new stuff ANYWAYS 4 - Atleast they're not going for software level encryption, like CSS, that requires region matched firmware and some DRM keys. Hardware encryption is fast, efficient, and fail safe [until your board blows up]...count it a blessing and not a curse. 5 - You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. If pissing off customers si what's required to get the new blue laser tech launched, so be it.....people still watch VHS now....they can watch DVDs on XP instead. |

Back on topic:
My guess is there will be a software solution. Just like watching DVD's now. There is no real reason you have to have the special monitor cable. After all we already have the bandwidth necessary to watch these movies, which, unless I missed something, is what the focus of the article was. |

I think I'm more concerned about DirectX 10 being Vista only.

From all I've read recently, most of us won't be able to simply 'upgrade' to Vista from XP. We'll have to get a whole new 64-bit system to do so since MS has opted to not support 32 bit in Vista.
Or am I misunderstanding something? |

"NVIDIA offers a complete top-to-bottom line up of NVIDIA® GeForce™ graphics processing units (GPUs) that will take full advantage of the new Windows Vista features and functionality when the final OS is released."
http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html Looks like most of nvidia's cards will still work with Vista. |

If they want me to buy a special monitor and video card to watch an HD movie on my PC I'll just download the freaking thing old school style and tell them to shove their HDCP up their ****
I like this quote from the article: Quote:

The reason I asked the question re: 32-bit or no, is that, an article in the Business section of Wednesday's AJ/C said that Gates indicated that they are dropping support for 32-bit systems with the release of Vista.
Now, maybe whoever wrote that article misunderstood what was actually said. That's what I'm thinking. However, to make things a little bit clearer, here's the link to Microsoft's actual guidelines for PCs and Vista compatibility: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/win.../entpguid.mspx |

Well that's bloody annoying... I was thinking of getting at the very least 1 x1900xtx... possibly a crossfire x1900 aswell... but was wanting to use my next system with vista... I wonder if ATi will offer some kind of solution for x1900 owners?
But then with vista will come DX10 - so would probably be wanting a new card anyway :S |

oh wow.....
i'm still leaning towards a solution being provided... be it that ati has already managed to get a chip onto the boards but has it disabled or whatever..... don't know.... but it's of interest and my guad.. there are dozens of cheap monitors.. even 19" crts that manage a 1920x1080 resolution @ a good refresh rate.......
