to tell you the truth, i've never used or seen your motherboard before, never used any of the Via chipset motherboard.
what i've been answering to your questions here are just a basic knowledge of BIOS setup program, hardware and Windows. i tried to have the BIOS and hardware configuration setups correctly to match with your installed Windows. but all of these seems to me that i cannot help you. in order for me to help you (which i was hoping to have all of the problems solved), you must help me. you must response to All of the advices that have been giving to you earlier by others and myself. i knew you've been giving this a try for 2-3 days now. if you have done like i just mentioned above, i'm sure at lease all of the problems should be fixed by now (it won't take this long), or at lease you should already recieved a clear answer to every questions that you have on the problems, so that, you can decide on what to do with the computer system. and as i can see here, you're still have some options on what you should or shouldn't do with the computer system. |

i have called up and told them the situation and that the motherboard sata is 1.5 and the HDD is 3.0 and about the jumper forcing it to 1.5 he said that u shouldnt do that because it may cause some damage to the HDD and the M/B.
I mean y have pins there if they r not going to be used!? he said that we've pretty much covered all the bases that he wouldve gone through himself. I have learned more about sata through this and didnt even now about the 1.5 and 3.0 so its kinda my problem that i bought them without checking this stuff out b4hand. so i can either take it back and try n get a sata 1 or just put the sata in my other computer and take out the 200g HDD IDE and whack that instead. Seems a bit weird though the computer that doesnt like it is about 3-4 months old and i bought it as a package at a comp store so they mustve put in a cheap M/B that wouldve just done the job and plus dont no how long the 3.0Gb p/s have been out. |

yeah well at the moment looks like i will have to use the IDE instead as i am a bit poor at the moment.
All bills n crap like that. Sucks really but thats the way it is. Well thankx very much for all ur help i have learnt more because of it too! Um going back to the question about the backup issue....I am using Paragon Drive Backup but i dont no if that has the option to only backup files and folders that i want to backup. I spose its good to backup all of it but even if i just backed up the things that i needed Eg files and Music then i can just put that back on with a fresh windows installation. |

but in your case you must take the Seagate tech supports's words, noone knows any better about the Seagate drives than the Seagate tech supports themselves. as for the Drive Backup, this software program is not designed for making backups on an individual files. however, you can recover individual files after you have already created a full disk or partition backup image. you can export any file from the backup image either by mounting the image with a drive latter or by using its image/partition explorer program. |

I had the same problem with a WD SATA drive using the same MBd. I went through the trouble of updating my BIOS and ALL my drivers with no apparent improvement.
When I set the drive jumper to the 150MB/s data transfer rate configuration...Eureka! The BIOS recognized the drive and I was able to move forward (I'm configuring and copying data right now). I saw this drive online for about $90... a decent buy in my book. I am setting this up as my boot drive and will be repartitioning my other drive. I'm not sure how much faster this drive will be (disappointed that I had to drop the data XFer rate by half...), but it should serve the purpose. I don't have much experience with the Seagate SATA drives (in fact this is my first SATA install...its been a learning experience to say the least). I set the BIOS to "Enable" the SATA drive controller and the SATA mode to "IDE". You shouldn't have to remove your other drives. My System specs are: Biostar P4M80-M7 MBd , 1.5G RAM, Seagate 160G IDE, WD 250G SATA, DVD +/-RW 16X and NVIDIA QuadroPro2 AGP 4x(older bd but high end for it's time..got a good deal on it). Not too sure about the Seagate drive configurability... try to configure the Seagate to the 150MB/s transfer rate (if possible w-out damage to the drive) ... otherwise, if you can, return it and go with the WD drive, then you can at least get the thing working for you. I ran this gauntlet for the last 3 weeks trying to get this this to work. I found your posts today as I FINALLY got results! I hope this is helpful...and good Luck with it!
