Any way to speed up downloading files?

Im downloading files between 2MB - 1GB.

The 2mb files download within 2-3 mins and the 1gb files download sometimes 1 day.
i am using limewire and bittorrent. my isp plan is 1.5mbps downloading and the bit where it tells u wot ur download number is, sometimes its 2kbs up to 30 Kbs.

is there a reason it doesnt download up to 100Kbs and over for wot my plan is on?

I use the tcpip.sys patch to speed up dramaticly the bittorrent downloads ,U can find it here:

http://www.lvllord.de/

It's suitable for the last updated tcpip.sys.

But it's only working if U have SP2 installed, do not go higher then 50 connections
if the patch ask u for it.
Windows will ask u to insert the SP2 disk to replace the unrecognized version, press cancel to allow the patched file, reboot after patching...

Theoretically you should be able to download with a 1.5 mbit connection at 192 kb/s, but in practice you should take away some 10%, so it should be somewhere at 170-175 kb/s.

It also depends what you are downloading. If you are downloading something with alot of sources then the downloading speed should be higher, as opposed to some file with less sources.

It also depends where you are downloading from.

And it depends on your p2p client settings.

cool thankx for that ill try it when i get home.
with limewire while downloading it will tell me how many hosts and wot speed its downloading at.....so basically if its only 2-3 hosts it'l b downloading slower than 5-10?

My p2p settings im not very familiar with but i know that i have put the connection speed and all that area to the fastest or wot eva i have.

it just seems strange that downloading files 500Mb - 2Gb takes between 12 hours - 1-2days.

so that tcp.sys file should i backup the other one first incase anything goes wrong or is the file ok to override the old one IF theres one on there.

One thing to remember is that you can only d/l as fast as the other end SENDS.

For instance, I have a 3meg/768K dsl connection. If I were to send you something P2P, the FASTEST you could get it would be at 768K. If/when I get the 3meg/3meg BPL that's here in Cincinnati, I could send to you at 3meg.

There are 2 other things to consider ontop of what's been mentioned:

One is that your ISP might be throttling the speed on the TCP/UDP ports that are known to be used for those programs. This is why alot of people, as well as some sites mention that you should change the ports you use to something else beyond the range that your ISP might block or throttle. Bittorrent, for instance, uses 6882-6999, so something above the private addresses (which stops at 49151) might be more benificial.

Also, some sites that require the use of BitComit, or Azureus due to the way they connect can effect the speeds of your BT downloads. The idea is that they can control the way data is moving back and fourth, and force you to share or seed the parts you have more than you're downloading.
