Problem with menus

when my computer starts up, after its finished loading, when i try to do somthing, the screen will go black, and then come back... now everything seems to run fine but when i right click on the desktop or use the menus, it eats up my processor speed. My music starts skipping and the menus dont just pop up anymore. they kinda faid in.

i run widows 2k, and i could really use some help.

first, make sure that the Windows system is up to date and scan for virus and other malicious virus-like.
then try this: disconnect from the internet/network, turn off virus protection and other background applications, and then see what happens?
if that helps, turn every background applications back on except the virus protection program, and see?
if things seems to be okay, you'll probably need a new virus protection program or you can try reinstalling the existing one and see?
