Getting core 2 duo, windows 64 or 32?
Hey all,
I am building a new pc this weekend with a core 2 duo 2.4ghz and a Nvidia 7950 GX2 and the asus sli delux board. Now I have a legit copy of Windows xp pro 32 bit, but am wondering if I should get the 64 bit version to tide me over till vista. IS the 64 bit version going to be a huge improvement over my 32 bit version? What about games? Do they run differently in the 64 bit version? And since I have a real copy of x32 do I still have to buy a full windows x64 to use it? Thanks |

Discussion of interest for you over here.
in short, 64bit windows will let you exploit the benefits of 64 bits applications, whilst retaining full 32 bit support. and as regards vista, I'd be waiting a few revisions before I coughed for that (let them iron out the 'kinks')

It's like Linux, you should try it first before even thinking about it.

I stick with 32-bit, for the drivers.

What about games like Oblivion and Witcher. Will those games run just as good on XP x64 as they would on 32 XP? Or would they run slightly slower?

Well then I guess I will just stick with my 32 bit xp pro for the next couple of months instead of spending the money on the 64 bit version... It will be cool going to 64 bit for the first time when vista comes.

when trying vista beta 2 builds, i found the vista x64 is harder to play with than its 32-bit version, some might thinks the same as me on this.
i mean in terms of apps, software's services/drivers, hardware devices drivers compatibles. even though these problems will also happen in others 64-bit operating systems, only more or less..., but unlike XP x64 and x86 builds, or linuxes... i've seen problems that clearly exists even more in the vista x64 over the x86 builds, this can be due to as of today there aren't enough software programs/drivers that have x64 compatibles to play with... |
