does 137Gb partition limit affect SATA HDD's?
I've just bought a 250Gb SATA2 hard drive, and i want to use it with win XP. however, the idiots at microsoft as usual decided not to bother putting native LBA 48bit support as standard in their os, unless you download SP1 or SP2, which i don't want to do, as i like my windows without stupid programs like windows firewall and other stuff.
so my question is, does the 137Gb limit (that you get when you try and use IDE drives without 48bit LBA support) apply to SATA drives? my second question is, does windows XP even support SATA without downloading service pack 1/2? any help would be appreciated. Sorry that I'm unable to answer your original question, but IMO, your best bet would be updating up to SP2. If slipstreamed, all the components you don't want (firewall, security centre, etc.) can be removed using the right programs (nLite).

To the second one: WinXP supports SATA without SP1 or SP2, only thing you need is the drivers for the SATA controller. On personal note I recommend you to install SP2 since it's the newest version of SP's for xp. |
