CDRW not recognized

A little help please.

Before,
Maxtor 60G HDD was on RAID channel(IDE#3),
a Pioneer DVD Drive on IDE#2,
Samsung CDRW drive(48X24X48, not DVD combo drive) on IDE#1,
all as master devices and things worked just fine.

I recently changed the IDE configuration as:
Maxtor 60D HDD on IDE#1 as master,
Pioneer DVD drive on IDE#2 as master
Samsung CDRW drive on IDE#2 as slave.

After I've done it the my OS(WinXP) won't recognize Samsung CDRW. I can see the Samsung CDRW on the device manager list but with '!' symbol. In my computer folder, I don't see the dirve(used to be 'K').

I also ran 'Add hardwre wizard' and it gave me message 'the device cannot start'(code 10)

What can I do?

Thanks

here is my rig:

-AMD XP 1800 with TI-V77L HSF
-Abit NV7-133R(latest C3 BIOS)
-512 meg, 2 x 256 Xtreme DDR(single-sided)
-Leadtek Ti 4400 128MB (42.86 driver)
-Maxtor 60gig ATA133
-Pioneer DVD 16x S106(slot loadong)
-Samsung CDRW 48X24X48
-Win XP pro
-nothing overclocked
-Antec 1030B case (with Antec TruPower 480W PSU)

Can't I just keep this config and make it work?

I'd say try switching them like Mac Daddy said. I'm not sure why but hard drives and CD Rom/CD-RW drives are almost always meant to be master's. I'd also recommend that you load up your BIOS and have it automatically detect all IDE settings before switching the cables, that might just be all you need.

Good Advise
But I think he tried that.

Unless his DVD is a writer, it should be labeled a slave.
And Blix9 I think a second slave.

As I always like to keep my primary open for HD's

But again great advise MikeDAMAN

I have my CD/RW as slave, single device on IDE 2. Sort of by mistake, when I assembled everything I took the CD/RW from my old rig, where it shared IDE2 with a CD-ROM, following something I'd read maybe in the Nero docs (? can't remember).

I'm positive my current situation is a result of forgetting to move the jumper But it works flawlessly.

Good point Merry
But I guess we are both hardware guys aren't we
WINK WINK !!

I considered the fact that BLIX9 may have neglected jumper settings on both his DVD and CDROM R/W Drives.
Just trying to help him out with a quick fix!!

Slaves and Masters are determined by that jumper setting, its in the Firmware.

Although I always keep my HD's to Primary and Primary Slave

And always use my writer as my Second Master

Thanks guys for help.
I haven't had a chance to open my case yet. I am pretty sure I put it correctly on slave with the jumper. The BIOS says it too. I just hate to open my case. It's quite heavy.
Anyway, I'll try to set it(CDRW) as master tomorrow.
