windows loading screen resolution

hi all

I was wondering is there a way to change the 640X480 screen resolution of windows XP when windows in loading (you know when you have that clue bar moving from left to right and it says windows XP in big letters)

the one before the logon screen... where the background is black.

thanks

I believe the reason we see it this way is because this window is loaded PRIOR to the loading of the video drivers themselves. So, without having any video drivers, that screen is defaulting to a monitor default resolution, I think.

Unless there's a way to change that on the monitor itself, I believe we're out of luck.

Maybe someone else has some tricks up their sleeves, though. So, don't take my word as final.

As far as I'm aware, 640x480 is the only option available but not sure why, Dyre's reasoning sounds plausible though.

I know that if you're designing your own it won't work unless the image you're using is in 640x480 as well so its not being scaled by anything...

hi guys. thanks for the quick response

I dont think this is right cause if you remember during the fresh install of windows XP after the first graphics install and saving settings.. windows resets the pc and then the loading screen come up in 800X600 and takes up less space on the screen.. meaning the install process has a way to change the default settings.. this is puzzeling to me as to why we cannot change this..

i'd love it if some of the geniuses here could help me solve this..

thanks,

I'm actually curious about this as well. My Toshiba laptop bios has an option which causes the screen to keep it's full resolution from boot, which causes the windows loading screen to only occupy the section 640x480 in size in the middle of the screen.

?? that doesnt sound right, the boot/load screen never changes, the welcome/login screen always raises resolution

if you've started safe mode or disabled the load screen, it's that same 640 rez with low colors, but it shows a list of drivers & dll's being loaded

so anyway, it doesnt sound right that you can possibly change the rez & colors of the screen (but the image & location of the load bar & colors are easily changeable with 3rd party apps)
