"insert via raid driver diskette" problem during windows install. help!!!!
Hey guys, new to the forum. Here is my problem:
I have a raid 0 setup in my lappy with my sata drives. one of them died. i lost all my info anyway, i rma the drives, got new ones. now im trying to install windows, but am having trouble. i put the sata raid drivers on the diskette, connected a usb floppy, booted windows, hit f6 and loaded the drivers. i get to the select your drive part. works fine, it sees my 160gb partition. i format it in ntfs and proceed. right when it starts to copy the install files onto the hdd, a message pops up that says, "insert via raid driver diskette in drive a: " i was like, wtf? so i popped the same disk in there and hit enter. nothing happened. i tried a second disk with the same drivers on it. nothing. i tried the actual windows raid drivers, nothing. it doesnt even seem to try to read the floppy. so i tried slipstreaming the sata drivers using nlite. same problems. i am exhausted with this, and dont know what else to do. i have installed windows xp on this system before using the same process, and everything worked without a hitch. so why the trouble now? my system: sager 9750 x2 4800+ geforce 7800gt go 2 hitachi sata 7200 rpm 80gb in raid 0 1 gig ram any help would be great. |

since you have've already tried slipstreaming method i haven't clue why that warning message about the driver disk still showing up...
check the slipstreaming steps, source files and all again. and i think if no one has ever experienced same problems with this... you might have to go the via own forums or check with the utility program support/faq's web sites for this... |

Do you have any other USB devices such as Card Reader or such connected?
I'm taking a little stab in the dark here, but, I've had instances where my drive letters would get changed around during installation of Windows and I would have to use a Browse function to find the correct files for installation. A: might become something else due to other devices being 'discovered' during the process and one of those would suddenly be the new A:. Just a thought. |

dyre straights- interesting thought. actually, i do have a 7 in 1 card reader built in. i guess that could be a possibility. the only thoughts i have against this is this: when hitting f6 and loading the drivers, it checks drive a, which loaded from the floppy. although it could have changed it after formating drive c.
second, the card reader is disabled in bios. i disabled as many extra things as possible hoping to get rid of a hardware issue. oh, and also, this procedure worked before. anyway, good thought |

Same Problem
I have a new Toshiba Tecra S3. I'm running into the exact same problem while trying to load the RAID drivers.

yep it's supposed to work. the slipstreaming drivers in to the installation source files and create a bootable disc with it is not the only way but it's the best way and by far the easiest way to have the Windows installation process went through... when you're installing it on a RAID drive...
