svchost and autoupdates = raping my system
I've been having a load of problems with svchost.exe. i've done some searching online and narrowed it down to the auto update feature (autoupdates is an extension of the svchost.exe process). it is always trying to find updates to install and pushes my cpu usage to 100%, lags my whole system badly. i've used it for years and never had issues till a few months ago. I don't know what is causing it....
so now I have 2 choices and I don't know the solution to either. 1. forcefully disabled autoupdates, but I get nagged about it being disabled through the security center. how do i stop the nagging? 2. a fix for this issue so auto updates doesn't hog my system. |

You could disable the security centre service thus totally disabling the security centre...

Personally, I don't like having autoupdates on and use what Judas suggests. I have it setup to download but not install. I haven't once gotten a security warning telling me they are turned off.
However, I don't rely on the Windows Security by itself, either. I use a 3rd party Security system. |

go start/run then type services.msc, now scroll down to Security Center right click and disable it. Same method to disable Automatic Updates (after disabled in control panel).
My personal preference is to keep both services disabled, and jus manually turn it on once a week or so and see if there are updates, then disable again. |

i leave the Security Center service at default but reset the alert settings of the Security Center so that it won't alert me. the Automatic Updates however will notify me when i set it to do so.
