Ok, i figured out that i need to enable the language bar, but i cant get it to show. I went to control panel -> Regional and language Options -> Languages tab -> details, and i tried to click the button that says language bar, but its greyed out.

Did you install the speech recogition engine? If that's not installed, then the Language bar won't show up.

Just open up your "Help & Support Center" in XP, type use speech in the search box, and it will give you all the info you need on how to install and use the speech engine.

ok, i tried what you said, but it looks like i need a different version of office. I have 2007, i went to add remove programs and such, but when i looked under office shared features, i couldnt find alternative user input.
