IE7 Timeouts/Unable to Display Page Errors
OK, i ran into this with windows Vista rc1, where you loaded up IE7 and only specific pages would be able to connect, and then oventually unable to load up anything. Thought it was just a RC1 bug.. but apparently not.
Well, on my asus board, using PCI NIC 1 connector, if i start downloading or moving a pile of files internet wise, oventually i get a TIMEOUT on these transfers, HOWEVER, file transfers between computers on the network still work, just all internet related tasks come to a hault (Other computers can use the net and everything).. Moving over to the PCI-EX nic2 port, things appears to be running fine. But: This is the dilema i'm running into. Several of my ISP's clients started running into connection issues similare to above, either the vista problem, or my xp with IE7 problem. It all started occuring when MS sent out the IE7 upgrade. Since then, people are unable to get to there websites either rarely or at all ever. Panging or whomever else, if you have any clue what it could be, this would be a great help. I've also been looking at this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813827 But i don't think that's any relation of the problem though. This occurs with a direct connection to the pc or through a router.

i don't use IE as primary browser, however IE7 have been on several Windows XP and XP x64 systems since it releases and seems to me it has been working okay under both Windows XP's and Vista's (from beta 2 to RC 2)... i mean, at least up to this point, whenever my internet connection is running, the IE7 will (also and always) be running okay.
what you may want to try is, install an alternative browser, and see whether it can view the pages that you won't be able... when using IE. i don't mean to tell you that you should use other browser, however, this will tell us that there are some configurating issues in IE. if outcome is the same for other browser, this could be problem that related to your internet provider... try running some ping or traceroute commands..., try configuring the browser connection via some public proxy... anyway, i'll keep my eyes opens on this problem if i see any useful information i will post. also, please give me some links to the pages that you have problem accessing. |

Under Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings try unchecking Automatically detect settings if it checked. That solved a similar problem I once had.

Thanks pangingjr,
I personally haven't really any issue i haven't resolved myself here really, (aside from my one NIC on my motherboard bugging the crap outa me)... Problem is that were dealing with customers that either no nothing of computers or some that don't know enough. So installing extra browsers may not be a possibility easily implemented. (but it's an alternative) But this is to assist in helping out my ISP figure out what may be causing this issue. It's not a widespread issue, but it's an issue non the less that needs to be figure out.. I'm sending this link to my ISP (to this forum/thread). Panging or anyone else thinks of anything else, please, any help is more then appreciated. I've made the suggestion to do a REPAIR install of IE7 in the hopes that might resolve and issue.. but hey, we'll try anything at this point. Just Learnin, we'll give that a try even though it doesn't quite make sense (doesn't mean i don't beleive it would work, i've seen stranger things)

Judas, on my own IE7 after a new Windows XP Pro installation and update just a few days ago, I've run into a few instances where IE7 quits responding. A few things I've done to fix it on my own rig:
1. Disable the Plug-ins 2. Turn off the Phishing 3. Run Ad-Aware -- this one in particular seems to fix the problems I've had almost immediately. I'm prone to believe that the new Phishing api along with the existence of some spyware is causing the problem. After only one two hour session Ad-Aware found over 30 critical instances and IE7 was almost useless. After removing these files, it was back to the good times again. |
