What about Download Accelerator? I haven't used it in years but I used to think it was pretty good.

Now free, used to be a real hotbed of nasties (gets a red on siteadvisor) but current versions (1.73 / 1.80) are supposed to be ok (other than a bit of google toolbar bundling). There is confusion, as ALL download mangers tend to make use of a BHO (Browser Helper Object), putting then on the first step of a spyware alert by the way they function. A lot of them (including Free download manager) have also, at some point, included potentially objectionable "passengerware", though in some cases, possible to opt out of or clean later without compromise. http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/mpPro...tail.asp?id=18 - I've relied on this for ages - the free version has a few features clipped, and is on a non-commercial use licence only... I'd suggest looking at it's big brother, Mass Downloader, if considering registering Download Express.

I've used for years the ones from www.freshdevices.com
The download manager has worked well for me and my adaware, spyware, and virus detection hasn't given me any notices yet. That's not to say there isn't any. However, they DO say there is none. |
